If you want to stay somewhere smack-dab in the middle of some authentic Georgia Spanish Moss-laden woods, Skidaway Island State Park is the spot for you. Really beautiful wooded scenery all around you. Only complaints were that our campsite was pretty uneven, so much so leveling blocks couldn't compensate, and the nats were pretty bad at the end of March when we came. Other than that, the amenities were clean and well taken care of, the ranges were helpful and friendly, and every RV'ers expect to work and be available did indeed work and was available.

We didn't check out the hiking trails until our last day, don't make that mistake! The Sandpiper and Avion Loop trail are both easy and scenic and I would have enjoyed doing more than once. (Note: part of the Sandpiper Trail is currently closed due to Hurricane Matthew).

Be sure and pay the extra couple of $ and you will need to make a reservation. It is well worth it if you are staying any length of time. We did an on-off trolley to get a lay of the land in Savannah. Then walked around the historic district. Great restaurants and pubs. Amazing history.

We only had a 50 amp/water site and we were happy. We would have been absolutely thrilled if we had been able to snag one of the full hook up sites. But really, it didn't matter. To us, the most important thing is just having space and a sense of privacy. Skidaway was awesome for that. Every single site was large and private.
We would unquestionably come back to this park.

We had been hearing great things about this state park for awhile and finally made plans to visit. The hiking trails are all well maintained and are great for dogs and bikes. The facilities were top notch and very clean. Super easy access to grocery stores and downtown Savannah. FYI Tybee Island is NOT dog friendly. Highly recommend.

Skidaway Island Park is a gem! Located 20 to 30 minutes from Downtown Savannah. Super easy to get into the city and a Publix Supermarket a mere 2 minutes drive from the park. There is also about 5 minutes away a Krogers Supermarket. The park is lush with foliage! It looks like the set of Jurassic Park with tons of trees dripping with moss and palms of all sizes. The spaces are huge and well spaced away from each other. I never heard my neighbors. Bathroom/shower facilities were super clean and nice, also laundry room available. Only negative is that it's super buggy. Make sure you have bug spray!

If I had stayed in the full hookup sites, this would've been a 5 star all the way! As it was, we stayed in a water/electric site and while we still had a blast...it left a bit to be desired.
The park is clean, well laid out and quite pretty with nice boardwalk walking trails, Spanish moss everywhere and flat terrain for the kiddos to ride their bikes around. There are sites with incredible seclusion (camping area 4) and the rest are simply nice wooded sites. The biggest turnoff was how undefined the sites are. Many of the sites that we passed (and the one we stayed in) were just leaves/pine straw with no real clear place to know where to park the camper. Many of the sites flooded after a long night of rain, some as much as 4-6 inches deep, right where the campers would be parked.
Each campsite has a really nice tent pad, easily large enough for 2 tents. It's crush-n-run gravel and elevated. The sites are large, in fact ours had about an acre for the kids to run around and play in the woods.
The full hookup sites are amazing! They're huge (some as long as 100'), most are pull through and they have very defined light gravel spots. They are very well situated and worthy of a 5 star rating. Wish we would've had one, but oh well.
The park has some nice trails. The check-in welcome station has no defined place to park your rig while you check in, but we just pulled up to the end of the parking lot. Small but nice welcome center. One dump station available.
20 minutes from Savannah, 45 minutes to Tybee Island.
I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at Skidaway Island State Park while we were visiting Savannah in September 2014. It's only around 15 minutes away from downtown. They have REALLY long pull-through sites, which makes it very easy to park your car in front or behind your coach (we could have parked two motorhomes in the site). There is also a good amount of space between you and your neighbors, plus each site has plenty of trees between the next site. The park was very shady so our coach stayed pretty cool during our stay. It's very peaceful and beautiful with a lot of great trails you can walk, bike, or jog. They are very dog friendly, you can take the dogs on all the trails and roads in the park too. They recently started adding sewer to their sites so during our stay only around 10 had full hookups while the rest were water/electric. Our full hookup site was great and everything worked perfectly. The staff was friendly, all the campers were quiet and respectful of each other. There are a lot of mosquitoes here so you need to use insect repellent generously if you don't want to be eaten alive. There is also no wireless available at our site but we got great signal for AT&T and Verizon cellular. There is a one-time $5 park fee for your tow vehicle (not your RV). It allows you to come in and out of the park at any time. We really did enjoy our stay here and would stay here again.

Nice park, heavily treed with live oaks and lots of Spanish Moss. The FHU sites are pull throughs and are enormous. They are located off a wide interior road with easy access. The rest of the sites are on surrounding loops, they are dirt and vary a bit in size and ease of access. Some sweet private spots are to be found. The roads are narrow and tight through the trees with some root damage.
Verizon is 4G and fast. There is decent hiking paths and plenty of room to walk within the campground. It's super quiet. Didn't try the showers but they were clean. There is laundry available as well. Access to Savannah is 20-30 minutes.
Nice place, with the exception of the nightly rate wouldn't hesitate to come again.

We went to Skidaway Island with high expectations, based on all the reviews we'd read, and we weren't disappointed. The campground is lovely, with huge sites and Spanish moss draped trees everywhere. Almost all of the sites are pull throughs, and there are a number with full hook ups (and many more with water and electric). We were there Thanksgiving week, and the campground was close to full for most of our stay, but they'd had a cancellation that allowed us to grab one of the full hook up sites. Things never felt crowded even though the campground was full. Bathrooms were dated, but clean and adequate. There's a small playground in the campground and another one a short walk away. Our site was a super long gravel pull through with tons of room on both sides and a picnic table and fire ring. No wifi at the campground, but the office has it and we walked over there a couple of times to use it and found it worked pretty well. The park is relatively small and compact; all three of the walking trails, the office/store, and the small nature center were all within easy walking distance of the campground. It's an easy 15 or 20 minute drive into Savannah, and maybe 40 to Tybee Island (closest beach with open ocean) and Fort Pulaski. On the island, there's a University of Georgia run small aquarium with nature trails, which was a nice, low key outing. We had a wonderful time and are hoping to make it back again next winter.

Yes, there is plenty of shade. But in the summer it is HUMID!!! Not recommended for a summer stay. I have not actually stayed here, but I've lived in Georgia all my life and in Savannah for several years. Expect gnats and mosquitos also.
