This is ab absolutely beautiful park, that is expansive with towering Spanish Moss draped trees. A photographers paradise. It has biking and hiking trails that have few people on them, and great views of the surrounding wetlands. The pull thru camping sites are ugly though. They give you a great view of your neighbors travel trailer and their 2 pickups with an ATV trailer, all within 20 ft of your campsite. I know the pull throughs make it easy to park large units, but in a park with this much natural beauty, they are a huge negative. The bath houses are ok, they are well constructed, they just could use a little cleaning. There is lots of dirt on the floors in the showers. This park is very well situated to visit Historic Savannah, as it is an easy 25min drive in. Park you big unit at the Visitors center there; they have large spaces for RVs

Lots of early American history here. The campground has been up dated with new visitors center and bath houses (although they could use a few more hooks in the showers.) But this is "Low Country" which means there are salt flats every where, including the trails. We liked it here and will come back to vist more of the museums in Savanah.

We had to postpone the beginning of our trip due to Snow/Ice @ Home. So as mentioned above trip was shortened but we made good use of our time there. Road to site is narrow but just take your time & watch your speed. Once arrived we had a great Pull thru site. Close to Savannah, Tybee Island, Wormsloe Historic site, & others. Lots of good BBQ places close by as we just grabbed diner & headed back to site the first night. Did not have time to have dinner out other nights but restaurants were open for indoor Dining. Park is very good for walking with many trails. great if you want to see Live Oaks & Spanish Moss. Publix Supermarket is just outside the park so about a 10 minute drive to Food shop. Last day it was raining so we headed over to the NineLine Apparel store & Black Rifle Coffee Shop . Great Coffee (had the Cold Brew) & picked up a shirt & assorted items. Both are Veteran Owned & Operated, so stop by & support our Vets.
We never head any noise after 7-8 pm any night, so very quiet. Even days were quiet for a State Park.
We already booked for next year so that shows how much we enjoy this Park

While this is a very nice state park, we did feel it was a bit overpriced. We have been on the road for 2 years and have visited many state parks just as nice that were $10-$15 cheaper per night. That being said, it’s probably your best bet in the Savannah area. We would stay here again!

We followed the road into the park until we got to where it stated campground to the right and registration to the left. There was a drive through slot to the side of the visitors center that we could have pulled into to register but we parked in one of the large parking lots in front. There’s a road at the far end of the large parking lots to get back to the campground. After registering, which included a parking pass fee, we headed to site 56 with water and 30 AMP, which we had reserved on line. However, this was our first time here and we found out the road to Camping Area 4 to get to back-in site 56 was quite narrow. We have a 39’ 5th wheel and I would not recommend anything larger driving into this part of the campground due to trees and tight turns. For larger rigs, recommend areas 1 and 3. We were actually able to pull thru into site 56 then backed up to get situated. We had to use our leveler blocks on the door side to get level. Once settled, this was a great campsite and one of the largest and most private in the CG. You cannot see campsites on either side of this site as they are farther down the road and there are trees and plant cover. There are campsites right across the road but with the position of our rig and F450 we could hardly see those sites. This is a beautiful campground with a forest feel and nice trails. For the amount of campers during our four nights stay, it was peaceful and quiet. Not that you need them, but there was a nice variety of OTA channels. We got 2 bars on Verizon. There was a lot of tree cover in the CG so satellite would be iffy. There were a variety of sites in all four areas that included pull thru, FHUs, and 50 AMP. There seemed to be no real rhyme or reason throughout the CG as to which sites are FHUs, 30 AMP, 50 AMP or pull thru. There were 3 shower houses with a laundry room on each. If eligible, be sure to ask for military discount on the parking pass fee. Our nightly rate was based on a senior discount (62 and older). The visitors center had a very nice gift shop and also sold firewood. We had a great experience and would definitely return.

Our site, 58, was very private and spacious. The playground was awesome and my kids loved it. Enjoyed riding our bikes around the park and on Big Ferry trail. The camp store/check-in looked to be new and will also soon have an outdoor fire pit for ranger talks. We got a sneak peek at the new interpretive center, also housed in the main office/camp store. Bath houses were clean and the water was hot. Laundry was fine, two washers and two dryers. Would definitely stay here again.

There really isn’t a bad site in the park. Most have ample room and enough distance from your neighbor to feel private. We are a big rig and were cautious about the lovely leaning trees but found we could navigate quite easily.
We enjoyed the loop furthest away from the activity. We came in on Sunday of a holiday weekend and the park was busy but not crowded with kids and folks.
The baths were clean, the laundry room adequate.
Good cell coverage on Sprint/T-Mobile: full bars, Verizon offered 3 bars LTE. No issues steaming video and live TV on either provider.
The hiking/bike trails were fabulous and beautiful.
Only regret was that we could not stay longer.

The water tastes awful, so bring your own! Also, watch out for ticks. Even in December we found several on our dog. Two bars of Verizon service, but very fast. Great stay at Skidaway. Beautiful campground. Enjoyed the Big Gerry trail at sunset. Hot showers. Accommodates late arrivals. Grocery very close and short drive to Savannah. A little more expensive than some campgrounds. Cheaper than Tybee.

We stayed at Skidaway Island SP this past weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday and didn't want to leave. We stayed in site 57, which was one of our favorites. We have a 30' TT and felt that it was easier to back in than doing the pull through, trying to avoid the tree. Once we were in, it was great. We had no view of any other campsite. The site also has a large area for parking a boat trailer if needed. Some of the roads are pretty tight, especially on the side with the 40's and 50's campsites, but we managed with our 30' TT. Just watch those leaning live oak trees.
As for best sites, we prefer all on the 40's and 50's sites. The outer edge of the other side of the campground is just fine too. (66-79). We do not prefer any interior sites, as those are not as wooded and you can see other campers a lot easier. There were only two sites we marked as those we wouldn't stay at (no matter what) and they are by the dump (47 and 45).
The campground is quieter than most. We saw a lot of deer each day and heard an amazing owl on one of the four nights. We hiked out to the observation tower one evening and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. If you are a runner, there is a 3 mile loop which is flat, wide and great. There are other trails which connect to the 3 mile, so you can get around a 5 mile loop run. If you don't run, bring your bike!
The only downfall to this park is there are so many small ticks. We have a white puppy which came back to the trailer after every walk with ticks crawling on his fur. I think we removed between 20 to 30 ticks during our four night visit. We prevented him from going under brush, but I believe the ticks were also in the grass. Ugh... if you take a dog, make sure they are current on their flea/tick meds.
Access to downtown is about 20 minutes via the Truman Parkway. Access to the beach (Tybee Island) is about 40 minutes via Truman Parkway/Victory Drive. I grew up in Savannah... some local restaurants to try which have been around a long time: nearby are Carey Hilliards (low cost fried seafood and bbq, best onion rings and hush puppies ever) and Pearl's Saltwater Grill (great view). On Tybee Island, The Crab Shack (umm, crab, other seafood) and Spanky's (try their chicken fingers and spuds, also best fried veggie basket ever). Downtown is Elizabeth's on 37th (higher cost, southern and fancy, no shorts or jeans) and Crystal Beer Parlor (casual, cool place with great atmosphere).

Yes, there is plenty of shade. But in the summer it is HUMID!!! Not recommended for a summer stay. I have not actually stayed here, but I've lived in Georgia all my life and in Savannah for several years. Expect gnats and mosquitos also.
