We read all the other reviews and came in off of Courthouse Rd. around mile marker 13. The dirt road was good at first, but quickly got very rough and rocky. We stopped to scout on foot after going in about a half mile and found a nice big spot just a little farther on with no one else close by. This was great boondocking - quiet, plenty of stars at night, beautiful scenery, hardly any trash about, and endless rough jeep tracks to stroll around on out into the desert. Other campers told us about hunting for fire agates and we enjoyed trying our luck at finding these unusual semi-precious stones as we were wandering around.

It's not far to go to get anything one needs I stayed at the last dirt road from the Salome/courthouse exit. There was a pretty good wash to cross to get to where I parked and would not have been ideal for a larger trailer (mine is 18 foot) but there were lots of places for bigger rigs that are easy to get into. This is an A+ boondocking site in my book!

We loved this BLM spot outside of Phoenix. We didn't really leave the entire time we were here, there are not any towns nearby, but there was enough space for the kids ro run around and play. Space is open and you're not too close to neighbors.

I counted 10, where Salome hwy intersects with Courthouse rd is the actual beginning. The GPS cords given is the third entrance which has a very rough road. If you have a big rig like myself the very first and the seventh thru the tenth seem to be the better choices. Like many others, I got in a little late and made the mistake of entering the third (gps cords on Campendium) entrance. The sites were nice at that entrance, just rough getting to them. If you have a truck camper or something of that size, the options are endless. The closer you get to the mountain the rougher the terrain.

We loved camping here! It's fairly easy to find. You head south through Tonopah, take a right when the road splits, and then look for Courthouse Road. Along Courthouse Road there are several turn-offs, that head into the BLM area via dirt trails. No designated sites. Just find an open, flat area where you'll fit and set up camp. Most open areas already have fire rings built with rocks, left there by previous campers.
The terrain is desert. There are saguaro and cholla cactuses, as well as octillo (devil's walking stick). Didn't see much wildlife while we were there, though there are supposedly some bighorns that live near the mountain and on the hills behind it. Probably some coyotes occasionally too.
You can hike the trails that go up to and around the mountain. Or you can climb up the side and find your way to one of the peaks. Warning to pet owners, watch your dogs carefully to keep them away from cactuses. Our dog ended up with a cholla in the face which required a trip to an emergency vet in Phoenix. He came out fine, but it was a pretty sad sight when it happened.
The views are beautiful. The night sky is super clear, except for a slight glow from the Phoenix area near the eastern horizon. You'll see more stars there than almost anywhere. And the sunsets are amazing.
The area is big enough and dispersed enough that you can have many RVs camping there and not be close to any of them. Our closest neighbor was probably 400 yards away, and then next closest much farther than that.
No facilities. Bring what you need and bring water. The town of Tonopah has an RV park with a dump station if you need to dump before or after. We had t-mobile for cell service, and had no signal at the BLM area, but regained it about a mile down the road.

Went for a nice scramble in the morning, when the winds were a reasonable 10-15 knots (see pic). Roads were very rocky/bumpy and narrow on the way in to the mountain - brush scratched some of the dust off our riglet. But we parked in an open spot where the ground was fairly smooth - there would have been space for several rigs within sight of our spot (see pic). We would have been more impressed with Saddle Mountain if we wouldn't have just come from Indian Bread Rocks, which is our FAVORITE spot so far.
