We have a 37ft travel trailer.

Based on this site's good rating here & elsewhere, we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. The flies were so bad, we couldn't go outside, & spent a large portion of our time inside our rig just killing flies. Also, by the time we arrived on Friday before noon, many of the better sites were already taken, so we ended up closer to the road, which led to a lot of traffic noise. We were glad to leave the next morning. The area is pretty, but we're outdoor people & the ever-present flies kept us indoors. No bueno.

We had a very nice ATV ride around the mountain on BLM roads.
There are other comments about the flies and there are a lot due to the large dairy operation about 5 miles away. However we didn't find it overwhelming and could sit outside comfortably with a breeze. Also there was no smell here from the dairy.

Yep. We hit the Mega Fly Lottery. Because of a LOT of recent rain, the flies were quite bad. Somehow they seemed to just come from the air. Somehow into your rig. Not even sure how. They must have had fly camouflage on and would be waiting around your door for it to open. They had multiplying powers, too. Once one fly was inside, it immediately became three flies. Either we were on a hidden game show, or we were in some fly vortex that had no explanation as to how they would get in and would seemingly multiply within hours.
Aside from the flies, this is a WONDERFUL area as far as view and space go. There weren't a lot of cacti, so the dogs did fine. It's not super close to PHX, you could go to Table Mesa north of Phoenix if you want to be a bit closer to civilization.
Verizon and ATT worked great for everyone in our camp. No complaints whatsoever.
Great hiking right outside of your door if you park close to the mountain. No shooting going on nearby. Very few off-roading vehicles came around. Great spot, really. Just, those flies. I'm guessing they aren't that bad all of the time.
There is a little RV campground with a dump right down the road. Others have talked about it. They do have stuff like milk, OJ, eggs (sometimes fresh), FLY RIBBONS, and a few more things that could come in useful. Super nice people. $15 for dump and water.
I'd definitely stay again. Plenty of room for big rigs all around.
Not much litter, hardly any, around.
There's desert art in a few places around this joint. Fun to find!

This is a great free camping spot outside of Phoenix. There are a few people around, but it's not hard to find a spot with a bit of space so you aren't right on top of each other. In addition, I work remotely, and there is blazing fast AT&T and Verizon (AT&T: 35.9 Mbps down/9.48Mbps up). BUT: People are right about the flies! There are... more

In addition, I work remotely, and there is blazing fast AT&T and Verizon (AT&T: 35.9 Mbps down/9.48Mbps up). BUT: People are right about the flies! There are more flies here than anywhere else we've stayed. It's a minor downside to a nice camping spot.

We stayed here for a two week span in Jan. We stopped at the gps coordinates before pulling in, but the road was way to intense to try. We checked each entrance and about a mile down couthouse road past the coordinates we found a drive that didn’t cause us to scrape or bottom out. We did scrape a bit on the exit, but that won’t discourage us from going back. The flies (in my opinion) weren’t bad until about 2:00 pm until the sun went down. They were out in full force a few of the evenings, but we just went inside, exterminated the ones that followed us in and chilled out till 5:30-6:00. Those were my only two complaints, the beautiful hiking and landscape made up for them ten fold. We went on many hikes and they were awesome. We usually pick up some trash and glass around our campsite, but there was none to pickup for the most part, just agates and minerals glistening everywhere you look. I’m sure I’m not the only one to get yelled at by my spouse for trying to hoard beautiful rocks and minerals. The dump station not far from there on Salome rd also has water, laundry, groceries, and is basically a farm. He seems to get more and more necessities each time I’ve been there. I talked with the owner Dave and he is going to turn it into a full blown general store for us campers and nomads. All and all great beautiful blm spot.

We camped at the westernmost corner near the road and were virtually alone. If we were staying longer we would have ventured further back in the Jeep to find a better spot. Amazing mountains and hiking. The only real downsides were the flies and the distance to shopping (about 30 minutes). But neither are a deal breaker.

There’s an entrepreneur about 5 miles away that has an RV dump station, small grocery, laundry, potable water and will take your garage. All for a fee , but travel time is minimal and your supporting the local economy. I highly recommend his services. He is on Salome rd .
Great area , will return.

What can I say...simply amazing. We stayed her in late January...weather was nice and not many flies, as some reviews posted. It was a bit rocky and road was a little tight, but there were many spots to pick from. There were rigs of all sizes including our 38 ft 5er. Would definitely come back!
