We spent two nights there last weekend. The first night (Fri) we arrived well after dark so we stayed close to Courthouse Rd since it was our first time there and we didn't want to unhook just to drive deeper into the land looking for a place. The next morning we went drove to the foot of the Saddle Mountains and set up there. The location was beautiful. We felt safe given there were other campers within sight. It was very quiet and relaxing and provided beautiful a beautiful sunrise and sunset. I took my drone and was able to fly it without fear of invading anyone else's space or of losing it. We will absolutely go back.
The only downside was one of my tires was flat when we woke up Sunday from what turned out to be a thorn having punctured my sidewall in route to remote space. Luckily I had a spare and made it home but we'll know better to stay on beaten paths next time.

We love it here. You Turn off Salome Hwy on to Courthouse Rd and any gravel road on your left is good for camping up to 14 days on BLM land next to Saddle Mountain. Some roads are rocky and narrow while others are large enough for our 43' fifth wheel and most go back about a mile with many level spots along the way for camping. Generally the farther south you go the better the roads. Some people complain about flies but I didn't find it to be an issue at all. We just bought a fly strip and hung it on the ceiling for the few flies that got inside. Even outside they were not annoying. It was 65 to 70 degrees most days so it may be worse with warmer weather.
I spoke with the owner of Saddle Mountain Ranch nearby. He provides a dump, potable water and garbage disposal for any RVers in the area for about $15 and is even willing to accept delivery of packages for free. It's 4 miles east on Salome Hwy. Don't get it confused with Saddle Mountain RV park. They no longer provide a dump to non-campers in their park. There is no other dump station within 20 miles so this is the one to use.
We had 20Mbps download with AT&T and 4Mbps with T-Mobile. The area is very quiet with little traffic along the highway. A nice hike up the mountain if you are adventurous. It's a rock-hound paradise as well with fire agates and lots of chalcedony laying all around.

Lots of dispersed camping options, some near main road, some near mountains. Multiple little roads lead in, some very rocky, some smooth. Get on your bike and ride ahead, or just follow the crowd. Only problem, there is a fly problem due to the chicken farm 10 miles away. We were constantly killing flies. Great hiking. Quiet.

We returned in early 2020 - and wow, definitely has gotten more popular (that'll teach me to review a lesser known site on Campendium.. heh). Also seems since then the chicken farm has expanded and there are massive reports of problems with flies.
During our 3-night stay, it wasn't too bad - just a few flittering about. Nothing a fly swatter or vacuum cleaner can't solve. But if the winds were a different directions, I guess it can get worse. Or maybe we're just jaded having experienced far worse with massive swarms of *biting* flies while in our boating season on the east coast? These guys at Saddle Mountain are just typical house flies.
Basically, after you turn onto Courthouse Rd - don't turn until onto a dirt road until after you pass the Mile 13 marker. Any of the roads before that are pretty rough. But the two right after MM 13 is super accessible, and dozens of awesome flat spots to choose from.
Oh, and please help clean up MOOP (matters out of place) - way too much trash out here this visit. We packed out two bags of trash we picked up!

The downside was the dust when driving on the interior roads. Another problem was the flies. We picked up what someone said was Arizona Fire Agate. Walked up to petroglyphs. We would visit again!

Met some great people while we were there and would definitely come back if we had some fly traps. We were still swatting flies a week after we left.

However, a large factory chicken farm called Hickman's has opened up about 5 miles away. They have essentially turned Tonopah into a fly infested stinking wasteland. (https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/smell-chicken-eggs-hickmans-tonopah-clint-maricopa-county-arizona-11356054) In fact, the Saddle Mountain RV Park is going to close this Spring due to the flies and smell that Hickman has brought.
Thankfully, at most times, you cannot smell the chicken farm from this spot. However, every day from ~12-6, the flies are everywhere. Even with all doors and windows closed, they make their way in via our fridge vent. We're probably killing 15-30 flies per day inside our trailer.

Elevation 1262 ft. This was a nice stop over, just a little off the beaten path. Recommend for longer stays (we just had generator problems) tall cactus is here. A rough rocky road getting in but worth the views.
