Came to look for fire agates and stayed awhile. Roads just fine if you go slow. I snuck my 31ft older class A in without any trouble. Wonderful views, excellent hiking, fire rings bring your own wood), quiet. Maybe six rigs here spread out over miles.

After coming down W. Salome Hwy, go west at the W. Courthouse Rd. Start looking to your left. Lots of inlet roads that lead you onto the BLM. I stayed here on route 8209 right up by the wash. I was pulling a 27' travel trailer with a F250 F X4 and had no trouble. The roads in are quite rocky. Just take your time. Any size rig is good to a point. That point is beyond the washes otherwise you're fine.
Beautiful views and starie, starie nights. Some of the most breathtaking sunsets I've ever seen.
Okay Verizon cell signal 2 to 3 bars 4G but no TV reception. No big loss there.
Access to fuel, propane, water, ice and stores is a quick 15 minute drive to Wintersburg General Store and the local Dollar General. The folks there are super friendly and will let you top off your water for free. Just return the favor and stop in and buy something. Not a requirement just a common courtesy.
No matter how we try, some folks just will not clean up their trash. Nuff said.
Would love to stay here again.

Arrived on a Tuesday in hopes of beating the weekend warriors to some of the better spots. When we arrived we were quite surprised by the large number of inlets to get on the BLM. As you travel W on W Courthouse Rd., after about a quarter mile after the split off of W. Salome Hwy, you will find a the beginning of all of the access roads onto the BLM. The ease of access will vary from no problem to not for the faint of heart. There are rough roads that will take you to the simple turnouts to the very base of the mountain and even beyond if you have the spirit and the vehicle for it.
The spot we chose was right along side a wash. If there came a nasty rain storm I can imagine it could be problematic but even though there were signs of semi recent flooding activity, I felt safe and far enough away to stay dry.
Hiking to the base of the mountain is a fairly short distance and I would rate it as easy for just about anyone to accomplish. Once you get to the base, if you decide to go further, that will prove to be much more challenging but clearly not impossible. Your stay is limited to 14 days per typical BLM rules but I have to say we were never visited by anyone so I'm not sure how you couldn't stay a bit longer if you were so inclined.
The night sky is dazzling with all of the stars and some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.
There was the occasional OHV that would come by on the way to the base of the mountain but everyone was very respectful and passed at a slower pace in an effort to keep down the dust. I simply loved the solitude here and yet it was a quick 20 minute drive (12 miles) to get to the Winterburg General Store and the Dollar General. The General Store is a great place to top off your potable water tanks (free), get propane, fuel, ice and drop off your trash. The folks there are very friendly and helpful so if you are going to partake in the freebies, please stop in and buy something as well. They have the best ice for your fountain drink in the land.
Cell service was decent with 2 to 3 bars 4G unboosted Verizon. No TV signal but then that's kinda the idea right?
I think any size rig can find a suitable place to stay, just know not ALL spaces are good for all sizes.
This is unbelievable would stay here again

This is a great spot to camp in an RV that you can button up. I have been staying here for a number of years, and have been surprised at the amount of flies that have been here the last few years. The area has fantastic access to I-10. It is about 50 miles from Phoenix. The roads to camping area a bit rough, but passable for most RVs. The big change is the flies. The big change is reported to be a nearby family farm. Allegedly, this farm in nearby Tonopah, has an incredible odor that attracts flies. If I stay here in the future, I will keep the trailer closed, and enter and exit only sporadically.

The road leading to the dispersed campsites is in good shape and there weren’t that many people camping there when we did. Primitive camping, very good Verizon cell service. Gorgeous AZ sunset and sunrise over the mountains. We only stayed for about 12 hours on our way to Phoenix but we enjoyed it for its peace and quiet.

If we left the rv door open they came inside, but weren’t much worse than camping other places. Once you bring it food flies are inevitable anywhere. Good open space, the next closest unit to us was a couple hundred yards. Brought our kids and dogs and we all had a blast. The convenience stores are close if you need something. Overall, awesome boondock spot, close to Phoenix, and really not as busy as I thought it would be for a weekend around spring break.
