Thankfully we didn't smell the chickens some other reviewers mentioned, though we did notice the flies. But in no way were they enough to deter us.
This area is a popular spot for hunting fire agates and we found a few smaller ones.
We shared a site with a colony of Kangaroo rats. They didn't seem to mind us intruding and they were fun to watch scurry and play. Luckily none of them found their way into our camper. Aside from them and a single jackrabbit we didn't notice a lot of wildlife.
Verizon cell service was good. Rangers were driving around talking to people the day we pulled out. Nice guys, area felt safe. Will definitely stay here again.

First off, let me begin with, we absolutely loved staying here overall. And definitely would stay here again. However, we would bring more fly traps.
After a few miles on a single lane road off the freeway, and a couple of turns later you arrive at your first set of access roads on your left side. We decided to go with the 3rd road in with the most visible RVs. We figured that would indicate the most accessible entry as this was one of our first "true" boondocking experience. You will notice that even though the roads are relatively level, there are a TON of rocks that can vary in size from something that gets stuck in a tire tread, to something with more of a soccer ball size resemblance.
There are actually a ton of spots to choose from, with a bunch of different sizes. But we did notice the farther down the dirt road you went, these options quickly limited. Making sure to avoid the ground littered with previous fire rings we only used about an inch of leveling chocks to get'er level left to right, and a pretty good head start on front to back. Leveling jacks were all extended to about the same range which always comforts the OCD in me. Plenty of rooms to put slides out, and plenty of room for the doggies to run on their leashes.
There is always tons of sun here which is great for those of us that want to have their solar panels out instead of a generator on. But the mountains do block out that evening sunlight which is somewhat of a bummer. We had our neighbors running generators across the road, and the only reason we knew was from actually seeing them. Sound dampening was great, and you could really enjoy the quiet dessert nights. Even if your neighbor didn't have the same goals.
The ONLY issue we had with this spot was with the flies, oh my gosh. We used 4 fly traps over the course of our 4 days and they were all covered in a flies by the end of the day. Now. you might have solved the riddle to this issue, so this might not pertain to you. We would definitely recommend doing some research on ways you want to tackle this issue before hand. Because the closest big box retailers are about a 45 minutes to an hour away. But there are travel stations near the highway you originally exited off of that will have plenty of fly traps that will handle the job.

Very peaceful and I felt safe there. The only problem was the flies, as others have noted. There are farms near by with manure and hence the flies, plus a chicken farm. Other than that, I loved it there. There was water, trash and a dump station down the street and the fee was very little (Saddle Ranch). Hiking is nearby but was a little confusing how to get there. Close enough to the freeway but far away enough not to hear the noise. Friendly people around!

Easy to get to but road into is massive rocks. Not grated but dumped there and spread. Very difficult for me to navigate walking, twisted ankle. Other than my clumsiness the site is beautiful ruggedness. ATVers and the like would love it.

There seems to be a chicken egg factory a few miles away which is embroiled in a lawsuit with locals over nuisance smells and flies. It was pretty windy the day we arrived, which kept the flies down somewhat, but we still had about 6 that found their way into the trailer and we could smell the chicken factory.
If it were possible to camp without EVER opening any doors or windows, it have been one of my favorite campsites ever. Between the sweeping views toward I-10, mountain backdrop, and Saguaro cacti it is very, very pretty! The night sky is also gorgeous. Even the light pollution visible from Phoenix was interesting. But the flies and smell from the CAFO really detracts from what would otherwise be kind of amazing. (In fairness the road thru the camping area might detract a bit too — it was probably the roughest road we’ve been on, but hubby went about 2 MPH and nothing had spilled out when we stopped).

Make sure to scout ahead on a spot for your combination. Some leveling is needed depending on your spot. A popular spot for shooting practice. Not trashy, very quiet in the evenings. Agates have been pretty picked over through the years.
