Our plan was to stay at Saddle Mountain as a stopover between San Diego and Arizona but we found a place we would want to stay much longer and ended staying an extra day! Getting a late start out of San Diego we didn't arrive until after dark so we found a empty lot at the intersection of Courthouse and Salome Road for the night. The next morning, we located road 8211 on the map (look for the BLM kiosk) and took that to head closer to the mountains; it's a bit bumpy, as you would expect but not too bad. We found a nice spot that was pretty level and set up for the day.
We took a beautiful hike up Saddleback Mountain Trail. We were making our way up the mountain until we heard thunder, so we headed back arriving home just as the rains began! The views were spectacular!
Many reviews talk about the flies but we only encountered 2 in our trailer; they probably weren't as bad due to the rain.
The directions we used had us exit the 10 (driving East) at Salome Road (exit 81), turn down Harquahala Valley Road until you get to Courthouse Road and then turn left. It seemed to us that staying on Salome Road and turning right onto Courthouse Road would be a more direct route but we left a different way and did not check out our hunch to see if Salome Road went all the way through to Courthouse Road. We'll explore that idea on our next trip.
We used both our Verizon and T-Moblie Hot Spots and they both did great. We concluded that we could be there during a work week with no problem.
Saddleback Mountain was quiet and beautiful and we'll defiantly be staying here again.

Difficult to find on a dark and stormy night. I ended up using a satellite map. Quiet with only a few campers widely dispersed.
Cellular is Google Fi. Two bars Throttled LTE.

Enjoyed lots of sun, hiking, high views, quad rides, sunsets, sunrises! Local fun at Tin Top Bar and Grill, Wildlife World Zoo, and watching a little team roping at Buckeye Equestrian Center. Propane filled up at Shell off Wintersburg Rd in Tonopah, water and dump 4mi down the road at Saddle Vista Ranch (water pressure low so took a bit to fill $15), and General Dollar store 15min away. Negatives: flies and a few times chicken farm smell (mostly at night when air is heavy or if there is wind). To me the positives out weigh the negatives so we keep coming back. Bring fly strips and salt gun to kill the flies and a bee trap if honey bees bother you.

Stayed here for a couple weeks. Beautiful sunrise and sunset across saddle mountain. I parked near the main trailhead which meant a bit more traffic than I would have liked. I’d come in off one of the other trails and travel a bit further back next time.

Not too many people, but certainly too many flies. We loved it here regardless, lots of good off roading and lots of room to spread out! Good for all size rigs. An hour from town

Saguaro cacti towering overhead near some. Internet on cellphone was blazing fast. We did lose a stabilizer jack on our way out where the dirt road met the pavement... but we are a long trailer sooo... we’ll replace it. Definitely could have spent two weeks here. Down the road is a quirky nursery that will let you fill your tank for around $5 bucks.
