Looks like tent only, no fires and up at tree line so it’s cold and windy so we didn’t stay. Nice drive up though.

I arrived on a Monday. After getting camp set up I noticed how much trash was around my site. I follow leave no trace guidelines, so of course I picked it up. In fact, I picked up trash every day for about 2 hours. Fisherman leave a lot of bait and tackle trash. I would NEVER eat any of the fish caught out of this reservoir, due to the pollution. You're allowed to catch four per day.
My pup was hooked in her paw while taking a walk around the reservoir. Lots of travelers stop at this site to use the pit toilet. It is disgusting. People leave garbage in the stall, around the stall, and in the toilet. The toilet was covered in feces.
The Ranger came by and we spoke about all the trash. He stated that if folks keep abusing the area, that they would close it down like they have the other sites on the other side of the reservoir.
This is a no human or dog contact reservoir. It is VERY busy everyday with fisherman starting at 7am.
It is windy everyday there starting at 1-2 pm. There is traffic noise, but quiet at night. There are lots of Foxtails in the area, so keep an eye on that with your pup's paws. They can cause infection pretty easily. People do not keep their dogs on leash. While walking by the site next to me with my pup, another dog charged out from under their camper.
There's no way to hike all the way around the reservoir. You're either cut off by a creek or a dam at the other end.
I will never camp here again. Too busy for my personal taste.

I knew in advance that Tarryall Campground didn’t have many trees, but that the reservoir was regularly stocked with good fish. On a rainy June 2019 afternoon my son and I pulled up and found that the dozen or so campsites were only half filled. Yea! We found our spot, only a few yards from the water’s edge, and began to pull our camping gear from the Jeep. That’s when we saw the sign: No Campfires Allowed. Ever.
This, of course, means there’s no easy way to warm up after getting wet and chilled fishing and hiking around the reservoir. The scarcity of trees means that the campsites are exposed to the elements. We quickly understood why all but one of the other campers were in RVs rather than tents.
Being late in the afternoon we decided to stay rather than seek out another campground. We were, as anticipated, cold, but we caught fish and met some very nice people. I’d give Tarryall 5 stars for RV campers, but only 3 for tent campers.
One side note: I spent half an hour picking up trash around the campground, finding only a few cans and bottles, but dozens upon dozens of cigarette butts and small plastic pieces of packaging discarded after opening (you know the little strip of plastic one gets from opening a packages of jerky, for example). PLEASE take EVERYTHING with you when you leave a campsite.
