Respective neighbors. Clean and sites were pretty level. Please campers be respectful and walk 10’ off the camping areas so the after smell of urinating does not affect future campers.

Stayed here from 4/3/2020 to 4/14/2020. I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. There aren't many sites here, but I was able to get in a large site with a friend and also some tent campers that we didn't know but became friends with. The views here are amazing as you're right at the base of the Organ mountains and also overlooking the city of Las Cruces. You have easy access to a lot of great trails and it's a quick trip into Las Cruces. I will say that it had a tendency to get pretty windy up here in the afternoons, but overall it wasn't bad. Being right at a really popular trailhead, you do get a lot of traffic up and down the road, especially on the weekends.
One thing that was interesting was that BLM rangers would come into the campground every single day and write down the license plates of everyone camped there. I don't blame them since they're just doing their job, but we were hoping that due to the COVID-19 situation we would be able to stay a little longer, considering the shelter in place rules. That wasn't the case though and they were strictly enforcing the 14 day stay limit. Like I said, it's understandable since those are the rules, I just haven't really seen that level of enforcement in any other BLM areas.
My rig is 26' and I did have some issues getting out. There were several rigs parked in the turnaround area at the end, so I didn't want to take my chances down there. I had to pivot in my site which required me to hitch up at an angle. I was able to get out, but I could see others having some difficulty here, especially if there are campers in the turnaround.

BUT, when I arrived(on a Wednesday, about 3 pm) most of the spots were taken. I got lucky and parked my rig.
Still people came and squeezed their little rigs in. Some(locals)were very upset with some of the 30-40 ft rigs taking up most of the room. Enough that they were using some loud expletives describing the intrusion.
But they still came. At the end of the night vehicles were just a couple feet apart. It was noisy and just too darn close. This is not boondocking at it's best.
My advice...if you have a rig that is total over 23 feet, you may want to skip this place. Or you may just get an earful!

Just stayed 1 night passing through after seeing reviews here on Campendium. I was surprised to find a spot on a Saturday night, with only one other couple in the large area before the hilly, rough-road section which would not accommodate a fifth wheel. Locals come here to walk their dogs and park in this section. Quiet at night, did hear some coyotes. When leaving, a couple of cows found themselves on the wrong side of the cabled fence on the way out.

The BLM ranger explained to us that they recently put up posts and cables to keep people from driving across the desert. the only problem is that they made the campground too small.
Large RVs and trailers should be cautious about driving in as you may have difficulty in turning around at the end of the improved road.

We absolutely loved our stay here. It was fairly quiet and our neighbors were friendly. The views can't be beat, we couldn't stop staring out our windows. My partner and I both work full-time and use an AT&T unlimited data plan via hotspot, and it worked really well in this spot. We were able to stream, video call, and check email with no problem. That being said, we did have a MIMO antenna that helped our connection a fair amount.
Free water is located at the La Cueva picnic area about 5 minutes up Dripping Springs, but it is only accessible from 8am-dusk. Getting to town was also really easy and only a 20 minute drive. We highly recommend this spot and we will be coming back next winter!

This is a small but great spot for an over night stop. Free at that. Beautiful surroundings. All gravel and no designated spots. You just find a nice spot that you want to park at. Might be difficult for a big rig to turn around. We just had our truck camper.

Great camping area. We were in a van so if there aren’t any real sites left you can camp in the parking area! Very quiet besides the coyotes and everyone is respectful. Clean and nice camping. Ended up staying 3 nights instead of 1 because it was so nice. Great hiking and close to town

This is an “improved” dispersed camping area at the foot of Organ Mountains. They installed posts & cable fencing to prohibit expanded use of the area. That makes the gravel road in a little skinny as far as being able to maneuver bigger rigs around. There are only a few “sites” & very few for big rigs. Nice view of the valley & mountains, coyotes all over at dusk/night. It is a bit busy traffic-wise, especially at night, for having so few sites & such a small trailhead parking area. Just 7 miles from town and a couple miles from Dripping Springs Rec area. Nice hiking.
