No water hookups. Only pit toilets open probably because covid. Surrounded by beautiful land with views of Sand dunes. Supposed to be for hunters and fishers only but I stayed for one night and didn’t have any problems.

50amp power was a nice bonus even though it was cool enough that we didn't need to run ACs. None of the water spigots worked that we checked throughout the campground so I don't think there's a water fill-up. But there's a nice sewer dump station on the way out.
The roads to the campground are asphalt but it turns to grated dirt for the past few minutes from the entrance back to the campground. Then the campground roads are paved asphalt again. Not too bad to drive on, just go a little slower especially since it kicks up dust.

We came here with the impression of it being a no cost campground but we’re informed on our last day that to camp for free you MUST have a Fishing or Hunting Permit for Colorado.
Wanted to help others out so nobody gets in trouble and there’s not the disconnect.

San Luis Lakes State Wildlife Area protects a wetland complex adjacent to Great Sand Dunes National Park. Birdwatching and photography are primary activities here, although hunting is permitted in season. As with most protected wetlands, this wildlife area is closed to the public for shore bird nesting from February 15 – July 15 each year. We planned to camp at Zapata Fall campground but the road was in such bad shape for the 3 mile step incline we chose to camp in this wildlife area And we were impressed. Each site has electricity and pit toilets. We were luck enough to view the Neowise Comet while at the San Luis Wildlife Refuges. We highly recommend.
We have just finished over 12,000 miles camping across the USA. The Campendium App was a necessity in our journey across the country. We want to repay the favor and leave reviews which we hope aid in your choices of campsites. The A and C loop have water and mountain views and sites sit at a slightly higher elevation. All the sites are very large and spread out with great sunsets and star gazing. Electric hook ups but no water, so make sure you have plenty! Very close to the Sand Dunes National Park (you can see them in the distance) and about 30 minutes to town of Alamosa. Quiet and peaceful place. Shaded picnic tables and fire pits at the site. No shade trees, so bring shade in the summer. We would recommend and stay again!

To stay here each person needs a Colorado fishing license. You can either pay for a daily one or a 5 day one. We got the 5 day (Non-resident) one and it was $42 each. It’s a pretty good deal for a hook up and a beautiful view of the dunes. No water to fill up you tank tho.

New this year, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife are requiring each person camping here purchase a hunting or fishing license good for the number of days they will be camping here. Also be careful when walking off road, the large number of tenters are not using the pit toilets and are peeing and defecating where ever they feel like it. We had one woman drop her drawers and pee right in front of us without a care in the world. Just what you want your child to see!
Other than that, this is normally a very quiet campground and is excellent for star gazing. Great Sand Dunes NP is about 14 miles away and is also the closest place to fill your RV with water.
There are pit toilets scattered throughout the campground. There is a trash dumpster and small trash cans at the pit toilets. The dump still works, just no water to flush things. The 50/30/15 amp pedestals still work.
The park is losing money because too many people stay here without paying. Man up and pay the tariff. It's cheap at 13 bucks a night for a couple. Support the park!
The AT&T service here at the campground is flaky. During the day the speed is 45-50Mbps at night it's 1 maybe 2 Mbps. Visible (Verizon) plods along at 2-4Mbps which is good enough for streaming.
We stayed here in a 36 foot motorhome.

Great view of the mountains. Basic pit toilet facilities, dump station, big bins for trash and recycling, covered picnic area, firepit and electricity if you have a hookup! For a "free" campsite, these were the most amenities that we've had, so pretty awesome. There are tons of sites here, loops A-C - well spread out, but I will say it did get quite full here on the Friday night that we stayed. Saw several people going on morning jogs and bike rides, so the privacy isn't the best, but still fine for us. About a 20 minute drive to the Great Sand Dunes National Park.
Just be aware that you need a Colorado fishing/hunting license to camp here for free though for EACH person over 18. We thought only one person in the vehicle needed one, but this was not the case so I had to also buy a 1-day fishing license online as they're very diligent in checking up with each vehicle that comes through and will ask for it. The guy we talked to was friendly though, and was fair about it, didn't ask for me to buy more than 1 day pass.

You do need a fishing license to stay here for free. It’s well worth it with the great view and close distance to the great sand dune! There’s dump station but no potable water (there’s potable water inside the national park for free).
Enjoyed our stay and the time at the park!!

We usually don’t like campsites (as we prefer dispersed camping) but this was a really cool place. The sites were thoughtfully spaced out and designed with covered picnic tables to give you a sense of privacy. The sunset was AMAZING, the stars even better!! And you can see the dunes off in the distance. It was a stunning night.
