Don’t forget to stop at the Mosca Pit Stop gas station in town to get your $10 pass to camp here. It is called an SWA pass, and it is $10 for each person in your party. We forgot to do this and showed up to the campground without a pass, and the camp host graciously let us unhook our camper, but unfortunately we had to drive 8 miles back into town to get our permits.
There is no water hookups for our travel trailer, but they have electrical hook ups. The campsites are well maintained with a shaded picnic table, rustic benches and a fire pit.
The views of the sand dunes and the mountains are great! Absolutely unimpeded views, except for one chain link fence off in the distance.
We are about 13-14 minute drive from Great Sand Dunes National park and another few minutes to the Zapata Waterfall. Both were incredible!!! For $10, we really couldn’t beat this place.

Nothing fancy, but for the $10 a night needed, it's better than nothing. Sweeping vista views of the Sangre De Christos from your site, and canopys over tables built to prevent prevailing winds from messing with your stay.

This is close to the sand dunes. Plenty of sites. Easy access both RV and van. Free electricity. No water. Dump station and garbage dumpster. We really enjoyed the stay. You do need to purchase a pass online or in Mosca. 14 day limit.

We purchased a State Wildlife Area pass at the Walmart in Alamosa on the way in - the host will come by to check for it. Lake dried up with lots of bones laying around. Was able to hold video and phone calls.

The camp host came by and checked for fishing license/SWA pass the day after we arrived. He lives at the first site in loop A.
The views of the mountains and sand dunes were great! It’s very close to the National park.
We were in loop A but I had better service with AT&T in loop C. My service was unusable at A but T-Mobile has 5G here.

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in the site #44, an Electric only, PT site. The campground is free after you buy a State Wildlife Area pass which was $11 for seniors. Roads were asphalt with lots of gaps making it bumpy and the sites were gravel. The wheels on the RV went off the road on several curves as it was very narrow and had many tight turns. The site itself was very long and level. Had great views of the mountains and the Great Sand Dunes at the nearby National Park. The vault toilet was dirty and very fragrant. No wifi, had 2 bars LTE with Verizon but was able to stream a movie. Didn’t check OTA channels. The CG is totally open – no trees for shade or to block the wind. Picnic tables are sheltered on the west side and roof. Sites are generally very spacious with no one close by. This is a great place for larger rigs to stay as the National Park campground would not accommodate my size of RV. Plus the price is right!! Highly recommend eating at Locovores in Alamosa.

This campground is free. Well almost. You do have to have either a CO fishing or hunting license. For a resident, the fishing license is just over $10 and is good for a year. I had bought one to stay at a different CO recreation area so this didn't cost a thing. The real bonus is that each site has an electrical hook-up. A word of caution - it's best if you use a surge protector that you plug into the power post. There was one that generated an error code and had I plugged the RV power cord in, it might have damaged the RV.
The nearest fresh water is at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. However, the spigot has a nozzle and not a fitting that will accept a hose. If you need to use a hose, you will need to go into Alamosa. There is a Maverick filling station that has free water between pumps 13 and 14. It's also only a block away from Tractor Supply where you can get propane. The WiFi signal was on the weaker side but strong enough that I was able to stream without a problem.
The only vegetation is small brush. It looks similar to Rabbit Brush but I know that's not it. It provides a 360 degree vista, including a good view of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and the Sangre de Christo mountain range behind it. Each site also has a picnic table with a shell that covers
The wind will blow at times. The time I was there the wind kicked up a number of times. It was usually at night when it started. It was strong enough to rock the RV a little but not too bad.
