This was our first time boondocking in our overlanding vehicle and rooftop tent. The access road was easy to find and there were many open sites when we rolled up around 8pm. The challenge for us was finding a spot flat enough so we weren’t sleeping on a slant but we found one pretty quickly. It was pretty windy up there so we opted to skip our awning for fear of it blowing all over the place in the middle of the night and it would have also obscured our view of the sunrise in the AM which was so worth waking up for! We would definitely come back and boondock here again.

Lots of spaces, great view. A storm rolled through and the wind was a little crazy for a while, so don’t park too close to the edge. Saw a double rainbow and a top notch sunrise.
Only negative is that there were a lot of dead mice in our campsite. We were nervous about plague so our dog had to stay in our camper.

First time Boondocking since we got our camper. We were a little on edge for the first time out but this is the perfect place to cut your teeth on. I would highly recommend driving it first like everyone always says about a new spot your going to. We opted to stay as close to the two tower entrance (south entrance). We found the farther north you go the rougher the road gets. We might be a little to close to the edge but go big or go home. We have a good 10 feet before a 200+ foot drop off.

The campsites are along the rim edge and the views are just spectacular. We stayed in July and didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes. There was plenty of space and it was overall mostly quiet except for the occasional person coming in quite late or leaving early. We would definitely stay there again.

If you're coming in from Wall it's about 7 miles from town before you enter the park at the Pinnacles Entrance, look to the left and you will see 3 radio towers in a field and most likely some campers there. There is a dirt road with some pot holes but it was dry when were we there, so no problems for anyone. There was everything from tents to buses set up there. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out, we picked a spot about 10 feet from the drop off. There are no facilities, this is dry camping, but Wall is a short drive away if you need anything. The evening view was wonderful and peaceful. We thought it might rain and the winds got up but it passed through and was still all night.

We tent camped here July 13-15. We didn’t have any problems finding a site, every site has a beautiful view overlooking the Badlands. We did have three rattlesnakes in the grasses near our tent the first night, they didn’t move from their place so we decided to stay there. We were just super aware of where we stepped and where our dog explored. I’m going to be honest, I thought people we exaggerating about the wind...but it’s definitely intense. I had a hard time sleeping, I thought our tent was going to rip. In hindsight we could have set up our tent in a better way to handle the wind but it’s no joke! Overall though it was a great spot and really accessible to Wall Drug, gas, food, and the Badlands.
