Question about Nomad View Dispersed Camping

Chris asked on 8/9/2020

Can I get here with a rear-wheel drive vehicle? I am taking a road trip across the west in my Hyundai Kona and wondering if this place will be accessible.

If it is not too wet and/or you are careful picking your line, you should have no trouble. We did it in a 2WD, rear drive van.

2 concerns: 1 is that if it rains it could be a problem getting out. Getting in would be a no-brainer as it would probably not be possible. The other is that it can be very windy. We watched a couple with a tent and a cat, first struggle to put the tent up, them tether the tent to the car and finally give up and sleep in the car. If that's all you plan to do them it's fine but the buffering of the winds may rock you a lot.

Like most people said, if it’s dry you should be fine. We didn’t experience any rain while we were there but I can imagine the rain could make it challenging.

Yes. There are a few ruts and potholes on the dirt trail/road in, but you can just drive around them.

Might consider not trying if rain is in the forecast. Mud can get pretty deep, especially on the entrance road.

Yes, but make sure it hasn't rained in a day. It gets really muddy and the mud is like thick grease.

Check the weather forecast first. If it hasn’t rained you’ll be fine! It’s a dirt road easily accessible by car, but if it’s rained, it’ll be muddy!

If it isn't or has been raining, you will be fine, at least from what I saw less than 2 years ago

The Kona being a front wheel drive car you should be fine as long as it's not wet. we were there in July 2018, their wettest year on record. Going in, DRY, out 5 inches of MUD. NEEDED a 4 wheel drive out...
