While I'm sure people have, I think it's very risky. The winds there can come up suddenly, you are surrounded by grasses. If it's too dry a fire could easily start and spread.

We saw many old fire rings, however it was way too windy to have a safe fire.

I've seen spots where people collected rocks to have camp fire, so yes. I would avoid the grasses for sure.

I don’t know if this is technically allowed because the grass is extremely dry but multiple people around us made their own fire pits from stones to have small fires- we did and it was fine, but be extremely careful if you do! There are no fire pits already made here.
