Beautiful views of Lone Rock and Wahweap Bay on Lake Powel!
The camping area is huge! I can’t imagine that it would ever be so busy that you would not be able to find a spot to park.
Access to the camping is straight forward and we easily made it with a 35' fifth wheel in tow. Follow the paved road until it runs out. There were dumpsters for trash at the end of the paved road and space to park if you want to scout out any of the routes to the beach before proceeding. There seemed to be three main routes and multiple smaller routes form the paved area. One straight, slight left and hard left. The best route was the slight left and was basically a gravel road and marked with orange cones. Hard left had more bumps and some sand. I would avoid going straight pulling/driving anything large although I did see some make it.
The upper beach area is hard packed gravel which can be easily traveled. So even if you don’t drive down in the area you want to camp you can drive to it. Avoid all sand as much as possible even on the upper beach area. I used 4x4 while off the pavement as a precaution but it really is not required.
If you want to go to one of the lower beach areas or more remote locations on the beach your chance of getting stuck will increase.
There is a dump station and fresh water when you enter the park. There is also a gravel parking area by the dump station if you want to avoid the beach altogether and any change of getting stuck.

I was super nervous as I drove up, having never taken our 32' Class C off-roading before. The reviews that say to take a left at the dumpsters are right with one clarification: When we got here, there were *three* tines to the fork in the road. I recommend taking the middle one (it's also the one that was bracketed by orange traffic cones at the time we visited). Stay on the gravel-looking ground as much as possible. I *almost* got stuck by thinking I was on the hard pack.
Like someone else here said, there's three tiers of sand. While there were a few bigger rigs down on the bottom tier (closest to the water) we stayed on the second tier. There was plenty of room (though we had a couple late comers show up the second night and not observe reasonable etiquette by setting up camp too close to us).
The nights we were there were low wind and it was perfect. When we were leaving, the wind picked up and I could see how this would *not* be a fun place with high winds. Sand got everywhere very quickly.

There are many layers to this camping area. Just when you think you’ve reached the bottom, there are more! We stayed at the level of the main centre and had amazing views overlooking the rock, water and other campers. It stayed quiet up here, little to no atvs riding thru. There are many layers to this camping area. Just when you think you’ve reached the bottom, there are more! We stayed at the level of the main centre and had amazing views overlooking the rock, water and other campers. It stayed quiet up here, little to no atvs riding thru. It just rained a few days before, the sand was heavily washed out leaving a very compact gravel ground to park on. Angled just right for perfect full sun solar exposure and total shade for our porch.
It’s fall now and cooler which makes for perfect camping! There are vault toilets, dump station, potable water and regular bathrooms in the main centre.
Very happy with this campground. Sure, it’s not truly free like BLM spots yet was totally worth it.

This is a beautiful and quiet spot. Cost was $14.00 to stay the night. (to enter the park itself is $30.00 but if you meet certain criteria you may get in for free or get discounts, see NPS website under entrance passes for more info).
The area is set up in three tiers. The first tier you will see when entering is for the large motorhomes near the dump to avoid the sandy area. The second tier is close to the water and sandy and as others have said, stay on the driven paths. Even then, we saw several cars and a motorhome get stuck. We have a Coachmen 20cb and drove to the second tier but wouldn't recommend it, we were lucky we didn't get stuck. You will see mainly 4 x 4 trucks with trailers on this second tier. The third tier is right at the water with 4 x 4 trucks and trailers, we did see one little motorhome down there but I wouldn't recommend going down there at all unless you have 4 x 4 capabilities. He did make it out the next morning but it had rained so it made the sand more compact.
There were a few people on atvs but wasn't an issue. We didn't experience the wind that others had mentioned. There are toilets on the sandy area and the main restrooms at the road. If you get stuck in the sand there were a few fellas out there with trucks and straps to pull you out, but they aren't doing it out of the goodness of their heart. Stargazing is awesome. Had good Verizon service for online homeschooling. Have fun!

What a view, but be careful driving in on the sand, so you don't get stuck. We stayed in March and it was quite cool but can imagine during the summer it would be too hot without a/c.

Be ready for wind- especially if pitching a tent. As the grounds are one huge beach, finding space to camp isn’t hard. But because the grounds are one huge beach, whipping winds come from all directions. Drivers beware: DEEP sandpits, follow tire marks from other drivers as to not get stuck. Also when walking around, wear shoes! Lots of rocks and trash in hot sand. Extremely busy site with plenty of day swimmers, RVs, ATVs. Plenty of vault toilets- but they are cooking in the sun.. I’ll leave the result to your imagination. Beautiful cold water, gorgeous views, fun place to camp- but definitely not the easiest place to camp. Have a means of weighing your tent down (rocks on the edges!) and maybe opt to not pull out the portable stove. Sand will get in your car, tent, socks, ears- you name it.
Saw others talk about ATV noise, but on a weeknight it wasn’t too noisy. also helps to be absolutely exhausted from battling the winds for hours.

Lots of trailers in a line parked close to the waters edge but we parked 100's of yards away from everybody else and had a quiet spot. We were here less than 24 hours but I'm sure this is a great landing spot if you're in to boating and riding quads around. Minor garbage around and plenty of toilets placed throughout if you need them. The kiosk to pay was broken and we were supposed to log in on-line and pay but that wasn't working either so... free nights stay for us.

Lake access for bigger rigs as long as you have good tires and know what your doing. It’s pretty packed and ATVs fly through the campground pretty much constantly. Which we don’t mind. But if you prefer quiet this is not the place for you.

Beautiful.... but and it’s a big but... if it’s windy and hot, chances are you will want to open a window. Your rig will be full of sand if this is the case. Springtime and southern Utah usually calls for wind on a regular basis. It’s absolutely beautiful but if we had known this ahead of time, we’d have stayed elsewhere. There is a water fill and dump station and the park rangers are great. Suitable for all size rigs but be careful to not get stuck!!! We saw about 5 vehicles a day needing a rescue. Also, room for lots of campers but it does get pretty full and loud on the weekends.
