It’s hard to put into words my feelings on this place. The La Plata valley is beautiful and this area is no exception, I just feel like this particular campsite was way too difficult for what you get. It’s a good 8 miles off US 160 on a very wash boarded county road 124. And then the approach to the campsite from 124 was treacherous to say the least. Very steep, uneven and rocky. You definitely want high clearance for this place. Once you do make it in, the sites are very close together, un-level, and not private at all. The main draw of the site would be the La Plata river, yet only 4 or so of the 20ish sites are close enough to the river to enjoy it.
Overall, while free and beautiful (hard not to be beautiful in this part of Colorado), I feel like it was far too much work getting in here for the quality of the place.
