First off, lots of washboard getting into the site. This doesn't limit accessibility, as there are lots of large rigs camping here, it's just annoying. The recreation area has some beautiful rocks to hike up, a picnic area with tables, grills, and an outhouse. Very clean (except for some stray beer bottles PICK UP YOUR DAMN TRASH PEOPLE), regularly serviced facilities. The trail leading to the further back sites is sand of varying thickness, but 4WD isn't necessary if you pick your line and go steady. All of the sites are very nicely spread apart with plenty of room and privacy, again very clean. Open range, so you will see plenty of cows and longhorns; they look menacing, but are much more afraid of you than they should be. The best thing beyond the gorgeous views is the complete and absolute SILENCE at night, it is almost unreal. If you are a light sleeper, turn on a fan or white noise. I have tinnitus, so it was nearly deafening at times. If you plan to stay for awhile, definitely stock up on food, water, etc., as the closest Wal-Mart is about an hour away and the local convenience stores (30 minutes or so) are very overpriced. The stores in Wilcox are either low on stock or overpriced, and the town itself seems kind of sketchy.
All in all, it is an amazing camp area and by far one of the best I have stayed at in all of my travels and I will stay again. Ignore any negative reviews, if you can't appreciate this place you should probably just stay home and watch TV.

I spent most of a night there a couple years ago. Was guarding a possible burial site for the Sheriff’s Department. Lived here in Cochise County since ‘79 and didn’t know about this place. Was totally amazed at the views of the night sky. Oh, the body was never found.

We stayed in the first available campsite and easily leveled. A quiet, beautiful spot. Easy to hike up around the rocks. Lots of wildlife. Songbirds, quail, hawks, antelope squirrels, rabbits, lizards.. including a gila monster. We could have fit in multiple spots further in and will explore that next time.

We were here April 14-19. This has been become a very popular and busy area.
As others have said, when you cross the cattle guard and turn right there is an area on the left for about 3 campers. Then a little further up on the right is a nice spot for a tent under the only trees in the area. Then you have a couple more sites on the right for a car/van or camper, but not a tent. Next there are two roads on your left that go up towards the rocks. The first left turn has a spot a little ways up that a trailer can make and is not too bad to level, but continuing higher is recommended for high clearance vehicles and no trailers. At the top is a small spot against the rocks for a tenter, but it’s a washed out, deeply rutted road going up.
The 2nd left turn has a spot on the bottom, fairly level and the next open area up on that road has a pretty good slope to it. A trailer could make and turn-around, but it would be hard to level.
After the 2nd left turn there is another spot on the left, before you come to another large area on your right that can handle at least 3 different units without feeling too crowded.
After that the road gets rockier and narrower. We continued up and found a nice spot on the left next to the road and against the rocks, it was just before dipping down into a wash. The only issue with this spot is you can’t turn around to get out, at least with a rig our size. We had to drive further up the road before we could turn around.
After the wash, there are a couple more sites suitable for a camper and one small site for a small trailer. But after the wash and when the road starts to bend to the left towards the ranch, you don’t want to go any further. At that bend is a large area you can turnaround with a large rig. However, at this time you do not want to plan on camping there. The rancher has set out numerous feed troughs for the cows and the area is covered in poop.

We decided to get away for just a night or two since this is so close to our home in Tucson. We arrived on a Monday and there we plenty of spaces. Since our little A-liner doesn’t have a bathroom we selected a spot that was only two in from the picnic area and the pit toilets. Our space was huge, level and had a nice fire ring. Unfortunately the pit toilets were filthy and had no toilet paper. We chose to use our bucket set up. I read the toilet was clean, but maybe we hit them after a busy weekend? We will come back and stay longer when we have our new self contained rig. The stars were so amazing, we saw the Milky Way! We enjoyed listening to the nearby cows, and the coyotes. The area offers lots of opportunities for exploration. The road in is bumpy, just drive slow. Scout it out before you drive too far in, to make sure your rig can turn around. There were lots of great sites for big rigs, some even big enough for one or more if traveling with friends. I gave one star for cleanliness only because of the toilet. The sites were very neat and clean.

There are a few spots just past the picnic table area that could fit bigger rigs. I think it’s more car, tent, truck camper, van and smaller class C friendly the further you drive back. Sights are not very level, I even saw a car use those plastic leveling boards. There are pit toilets available at the entrance. No water or any other amenities. It really is a gorgeous landscape. The sunset behind the teetering rocks and the sunrise was magnificent.

Arrived on a Friday in April around noon. Plenty of spaces available. Probably 15 min off i-10. We have a 20 ft long van, so no problem for us to get in. There were a couple of fifth wheels/RVs that made the tricky corner past the last cattle guard and took the first couple of spots on the left past the pit toilet. Past that.... only vans, tents and truck campers from what we saw. Plenty of great spots a mile or so in past the entrance if you’re in a van/truck/tent.... but keep in mind only one vault toilet at the entrance.
Cost zero dollars and zero cents to camp. Can’t get much better. Beautiful scenery and solid AT&T service. We worked and streamed video. Three to four LTE bars with the WeBoost network booster.
Cattle does roam around the entire campground. They pretty much left the people alone and vice versa. You can hear the coyotes off in the distance as well.
Basic fire pits at most sites. Pit toilet was clean.
