This part of Arizona is desert - not the scenic kind, such as what you’d see around Moab - but just sand and scrub bushes. However, it has a stark beauty and Homolovi State Park does a nice job of showcasing their strengths. The sites are nice - level, paved and good electricity/water. There are several showers and although they show some wear, they’re clean and work great. The bathrooms are also well kept. There are several ruins to view and the park rangers at the visitor’s center are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The sunsets can be quite colorful. One drawback - my reason for not giving them a full five stars - is the noise from trains and the highway. Although distant, the trains seem to run endlessly all night. If your rig is closed you won’t notice; in a tent or with windows open, it’s a little annoying. The park cannot control this, but it may still be a factor in your decision. My visit was in April and the weather was nice; summer would be hot, hot, HOT in this location. If there were a 4.5 stars, I would award this to Homolovi and I would certainly camp here again!

Reservations through AZ State Parks would be advisable as the park was full both nights.

There is plenty of space between sites. During the week were here in late November and early December, there were at most 5 to 10 other campers in this large campground. Gusty wind hit a few times, but not enough to worry about. The water at the sites is turned off from mid-November until the spring, but there is a water point at the dump station near the campground entrance. Definitely go to the visitor center and talk to the rangers, they are incredibly knowledgeable about the Hopi who lived in the pueblos here almost a thousand years ago.

We stayed here in our 38' motorhome with toad, we had plenty of room in our paved, pull thru spot. We had water and electric, no sewer. Easy checkin at the visitor center. The park is full of ruins and history and wild burros! Of course the town of Winslow was fun and historic as well.

What a gem! Easy access from I-40 to a well-laid out natural desert campground. Beautiful night sky. Level site with good hookups and beautiful natural landscaping. We enjoyed the museum and Pueblo ruins at the visitor center. The bath house needs immediate attention/renovation.

As you can see I made the reservation on Memorial Day weekend. We were so busy I didn’t review the confirmation email until the next week. The agent mistakingly made the reservation for May 27, 2018.
When I called to point this out, ( after the 27th passed), I was informed they wouldn’t make that type of mistake and it was my fault. Funny!!! When they made the reservation they put the wrong name on the reservation. Not even close to my name. They excused themselves for that mistake but not for the one that cost me $35.00.
As I said before BE VERY VERY CAREFUL MAKING RESERVATIONS!!!
