No overnight camping on the salt flats, camp on durable surfaces only. Do not drive on the salt flats when wet as it will damage the delicate salt layer. Vehicles can also become stuck in the underlying mud.

We ended up stopping along our route along I80 West to check out the salt flats.
Planned to look for some of the spots that other had mentioned. We took exit #4 toward the Bonneville Speedway, then left on Leppy Pass rd. There were multiple scattered RVs off in the distance to the right as we headed up the first part of Leppy but as mentioned—-keep on going, find your spot….endless options for boondocking. There are visible remnants from fire pits in different areas.
Spot that we found had one that worked out great. Very peaceful, great star gazing, antelopes passing by in the morning, sandy, our spot was pretty level. There was bottles and broken glass in some areas. Very close the salt flats. Great free option!

Easy to find BLM campsite. Couple minutes from the Salt Flats and 10 minutes from Wendover where you can go to the World War II historic Airfield. Well maintained roads into wide open space. Plenty of room to maneuver. Quiet. You can drive down to the flats and drive out onto the salt.

We had pulled into this spot super late, about 11:30pm and there was a few spots still available, easily designated by the pre made fire circles. We stayed only for one night as thats all we needed. We had pulled into this spot super late, about 11:30pm and there was a few spots still available, easily designated by the pre made fire circles. We stayed only for one night as thats all we needed. A little breezy during the evening which brought in some dirt into the tent but wasn't a bothersome amount at all.
Road Traversal:
The road was easy! Just a well maintained dirt road. Campendiums directions/ route took us there directly to camp.
Other Details:
The areas differ definitely, the spots we pulled into could probably have fit up to two vehicles easily with some space in between campsites, and probably room enough for one vehicle and a rig. Probably have to just make sure space wise your placed in a decent manner, respecting other campers.
Camping here was great! Just was a bit breezy as there is only short grass and shrubs around for miles.
Camping here is also conveniently placed near the Bonneville Salt Flats, where its just miles of hardened salt you can walk and drive on. (Also where they set world records for speedy vehicles. LOL) Definitely would recommend for a night or three!

This was a great place to spend the night, we wished that we could spend more time here, but stop on our way east. Large area with multiple sites that you could pull off to set up dry camping. Follow the dirt road up into the rocks, or even more views of the flats below. About 10 minutes from the raceway, so I’m sure gets busy at times.

There is a gas station at the exit you take. Just follow the road and go left. You’ll loose pavement when you turn into the camping area.

The sites are located just off of a paved road, but almost no one was there and there was plenty of space. Super close to the salt flats too. The wind was a little rough at night. Nearby mountain made for a relatively easy day hike.
