Lots of camp-spots! Clean fire ring. Were there for the 2024 eclipse! Not much to see from this far weather. A little maneuvering and we managed to level our TC with no blocks. Easy access. Any rig can get in and find a spot. We went to the official Bonneville Salt Flats sign the morning we were leaving. This is a great one time destination or a good overnight location during your travels.

Stayed here on a drive from Colorado to California. We got in around 3p on 12/31/23. At first I had put the coordinates for the Bonneville Salt Flats Dispersed camping, and it takes you to a large gravel lot with a sign and there were few stone firepits. but there was one lone car so we decided to keep driving down the Silver Island Loop Road and there you will find all the good spots! The spots all hug the mountain and are spread out so you don't have a neighbor next door. They all seemed to have rock fire pits, no other amenities. Being here in the winter, there was only 1 other camper which was glorious! We let our dogs off leash and they enjoyed the space. Only thing to note is there is wild life scat everywhere. So be forewarned if you have dogs. Other than that, amazing beautiful spot I would go back to! You can see the highway from the campsite, but its so far away, absolutely no noise. And we had cell service which I always appreciate. And down the road is a Sinclair gas station, and the road to access the Bonneville Salt Flats is right there!

With the crowds of the eclipse watchers taking over all of southern Utah, we were very happy to only have a handful of campers close by. After the eclipse we had the entire mountain (except for a bus) to ourselves & our dogs. This is definitely a spot we’ll come back to in the cooler times of the year.summer time would be too hot & too exposed. There is no shade. Loved this mountain.

I arrived in evening and found plenty of camping spots on good ground packed fine dirt and gravel. Able to be very distant to others. I’d make this a return spot .

Having said that, the whole area, from where you turn off Leppy Pass onto Silver Island Loop, is actually public land, so you can just pull off onto any of the dirt tracks going up into the hills and find a place to camp. Many people were doing just that and it makes for very private, quiet camping. Silver Island Loop is a bit washboardy (June 2023), so be aware of that.
I'd definitely stay here again. So easy to get to off the freeway and just amazing desert environment.

I arrived later at night and the GPS led me right to the road I needed to get to a camp spot. The dirt road was a bit bumpy to the area I decided to park at, nothing too major. Lots of paths to take. When I woke up Thursday morning September 16 I realized just how dispersed the area actually was! I can’t speak for the weekend tho since I only stayed the night. It is very close to the Bonneville Salt Flats. I would stay again if I need to stop in the area!

Just makes me feel connected with the earth. Peace and quiet and beautiful outdoors. Access is good even with the wash board road. Clean too. Thank you people! Great ATV trails all around in the mountains.

Easy access off I80 for my 21’ Class C and tow dolly. Several turnaround options. Hikes and mountain walks very close. Most sites are not level, but they are reasonably flat enough.

This is a great area, just outside of the Bonneville Salt Flats, and minutes from the towns of Wendover and West Wendover, at the Nevada and Utah state line. Apple Maps had some issues with us getting to these sites, because it thought it was only walkable, and that there was no road. So, if you plug it in and there is a crazy long commute, that could be why.
Once you take the turn off of Leppy Pass, there is an open area that had some RVs and others camping out. If you continue east, passing the ‘Silver Island Mountains Back Country Byway’ sign, you will end up at the Volcano Peak Dispersed area. We traveled about 2 miles down this road, going around a curve with a flat area and big rock to the right. There are many more sites this way, but we turned around and chose the site marked in the map picture. Heads up, the road can be a little rough!
We had some cool views of the flats, I-80 in the distance and surrounded by the mountains. It is a little close to the road and there was quite a bit of traffic, so noise and dirt/dust could be an issue. However, it is a beautiful site!

Stayed here for 2 weeks through a Memorial Day weekend and needless to say, there were plenty of other campers out to have a good time. During the week there wasn’t anyone within sight. Saw some pronghorns and plenty of lizards. It was disappointing to see all the broken glass around though.
