Loop A (electric and water) is still open during COVID, along with main dump. $10 for utilities is mandatory in addition to overnight camping fee. Very friendly rangers.

Both loops stay pretty full throughout the week, so have a backup. Most of the sites are kind of cramped but there are some spacious ones on the outer edges. They’re level-ish. Bathrooms and showers on both loops. Loop A has hookups but cost 25 instead of 15. Loop B is dry camping with water spigots and trash cans sprinkled about. It can turn into a generator farm but only heard two kicking on a given day. Quiet hours 10p-7a. Stay limit is 7 days. I mistakenly assumed it was 14 and a ranger came knocking after night 8, so plan on following it. Rangers do daily rounds.
The lake is maybe a half mile walk from the camps or you can drive to the day use area.
Saw wild horses on the beach but they didn’t come to camp. There’s a coyote population that usually stick to the dunes but I did see one trotting past my camp one morning so keep an eye on your little critters.
Great spot within a half hour’s drive of Reno, Carson or Tahoe.
If you’re a full-timer and plan on sticking around, grab an annual camping pass for $200. There are 4 state parks within an hour of here.

Our Specialized Mountain Bikes valued at around $3,000 where stolen from the back of our RV as we slept just feet away from the thiefs. They used bolt cutters to cut our lock. This is the most violated and unsafe that I've felt in all of my RVing experience. I'm from the area so I know there are a bunch of druggies in Carson and certain areas of Reno. Overall it's a great site I just had a horrible experience. When were there we felt like there we a bunch of sketchy characters coming a going. I've camped at Walmart in big cities and never had something like this happen. I would highly advise you lock you bikes with a big chain or U-lock.

This high desert campground is at a little over 5000 ft. in the Washoe Valley 20 minutes south of Reno. Loop A 24 sites ($25) has water and electric hookups, but only electric in winter. Loop B 25 sites ($15) is dry camping, but closed during winter. Everything is first come first serve. Firewood is $5 donation for campground programs. There is a central bathroom with free hot showers in each loop. The hot showers are available in Loop A year round. There is a dump site on the way out with potable water. Unfortunately the non-potable water for rinsing at the dump itself was not operational. I filled a bucket with potable water and used it to wash out my hose and rinse off the sewer area. The bathrooms and the grounds are very well maintained, in fact the camp host rakes the sites between guests. The only negative was that someone had smoked in the shower right before I used it. UGH!
The area is chaparral with some very small trees, so there is not a lot of privacy between the sites, but it was very quiet when I was there. Mt. Rose is directly across the lake from the campground. Not much water in the lake due to scant winter rainfall this year. There is some road noise from across the lake, but it is not very noticeable.
There are a number of trails accessible from the campground. You can find the list of trails, their length, difficulty and the type of surface on the Website for the park. There is not a lot of information at the campground itself.
No wild horses came through my campsite while I was there, but it’s apparent they come through the campgrounds on a regular basis. I saw some on a very short hike. Please remember that a horse can easily kill a dog or a person if it feels itself or its herd threatened, so admire from a distance, keep your pup on a leash and protect these beautiful animals.

Carson Ciity big box stores. We stayed in Loop A because in November you need some sort of electric hook up. Nights are cold. Its water and electric hook up only in loop A which was $25 a night. My only complaint I wish I had sewer for that price.
We had 4 bars AT&T service and three bars Verizon hotspot service. They charge $5 to dump. Very impressed with our lot.

The views were nice, although we had been spoiled at Brown's Owens River Campground so this place just didn't compare. The Willow Beach was pleasant, but the mirky water wasn't that inviting. My kids and I still waded in, but was only stayed a couple of hours.
The covered tables at each site are a really nice touch. The bathrooms and showers were clean enough.

Several have additional parking available, or visitor spots for cars available. Most are decently far away from neighboring spots. Fire rings. Picnic tables. A few trees. Central (and exceptionally clean) bathrooms. Camp hosts with firewood usually for sale ($5). Several trails, lake is a short walk. Very kid and family friendly. Open year round and we’ll maintained. $10 per site. Additional $10 utilities. Additional $15 per vehicle.
