We have lived in the Reno/Tahoe area for 43 plus years. Typically we whiz through the Washoe Valley at 70 miles per hour to and from shopping, the airport, etc. We finally decided to check out this state park and were very pleasantly surprised! The rangers maintain the parks nicely. They round several times per day which is awesome! The wetland preserve hosts all sorts of wildlife from birds to a small herd of mustang's and the park's other spots (equestrian park, beach access, wetland trails etc.), not just the campground are included in your camping fee. We didn't use the toilets, however the hubs showered in the shower room and found it very clean and in great condition. We travel in a 43 foot 5th wheel and found several sites that would work, we took one of few pull through spots which offered some shade from a few trees. Overall, this is a great place to visit. We took our UTV from our site, across Eastlake Blvd and up into the hills, plenty of trails to ride. We visited Virginia City on this 4x4 trip, great time!

Firm policy on max stay of 7 days. Still a transcient vibe at times. No issues. Good value. Nice walk to dunes & lake, which was full from snowmelt. Wild mustangs, jack rabbits & ducks abound. Views of Mt Rose are beautiful.

We stayed two nights at Washoe State Park. It is close enough to Carson City to take advantage of the shopping/services. The campground is arranged in two loops, A loop is closer to the lake and in my opinion is preferable. Each site has a covered picnic table and grill/fire ring. The entire campground (49 sites) is first come/first serve. There are two restrooms, one with showers. The road and pads are paved and fairly level, most sites are long enough to accommodate larger rigs. Most sites are back-in, but there are a few pull-throughs. No hookups. There is a dump station, but when we were there in mid-May 2018, there was no potable water due to a construction project.
We had two wild horses grazing near our campsite, right next to the beach trail. The nearby hill is popular with hang gliders and their landing spot is close to the campground. Washoe SP has several day use areas with boat ramps and equestrian facilities.
The lake is shallow and can be dry during drought years. Plenty of water and interesting sand dunes with lots of bird life when we visited. We didn’t get a chance to hike the trails, next time! One thing we thought was unusual – there is a 7-day camping limit here.
We had 2 bars of Verizon 4G.

Really clean campsite with table, shade and fire ring. Self-serve check in once you pick your site. We did not use the bathroom facilities.
There is a nice trail head across the street from the campground and we hiked up and enjoyed the view from the cabana. This area is very hot during summer so October temps were perfect.
There are many, many deer in the area and often they are on the main road coming in to the campground so be aware. You may see dozens at a time. Wild horses are all over the area, too, and in and around the campground and Lake Washoe. We have a no night-driving policy in this area for that reason.
We walked to the lake and watched the jumping fish. Not a lot to do there. We don't fish. Two nights were perfect and allowed us to take a tour of the Bowers Mansion on the other side of the lake. The campground location itself is about halfway between Carson City and Reno. Another day trip you could do from there is to historic Virginia City- maybe 45 minutes away.

The showers were nice, but there are not many of them. There is water throughout the campground and a dump station at the entrance.
It is standard self pay rules: find a site, claim it, go pay for it. You can pay with a credit card at the main entrance however if you would like. We grabbed a site in Loop A, on the lake side so we had some nice unobstructed views of the mountains and sunset. The lake shore was harder to get to than expected - we hiked most of the way there, but the trail got pretty overgrown the closer to the water we got.
Definitely a well cared for place, and we give huge props to Nevada State Parks for keeping this nice campground affordable and in great shape.

From my observation, the sites seemed very well spaced although not much in the way of privacy foliage and such. Each site has a ramada which helps if it gets really hot. It's a dry lake now and probably for the foreseeable future which really helps in getting a campsite if you are a non-boater. Lake Tahoe is an easy ~ 1 hour day trip. Easy access dump station.

We're fine with dry camping and the showers are nice. The park doesn't take reservations so once you get a site, you're in for your max 7 day stay. That being said, we've never seen the park anywhere near full, even on weekends.
The view of the mountains is inspiring and the lake pretty although it is shallow and has been adversely affected by the drought. Be sure to take the hike up the eastern hills to the gazebo overlook. Carson City is known for its winds and this park is affected by them also. Davis Creek Regional Park on the west side of the valley might be a bit more protected if the wind is high.
Be sure to see the black and white stripe cows on the ranch by the southern freeway entrance. I just love them!

The bushes are a great sound barrier. Barely heard a generator, and no way could hear I-580 (US 395).

There are no hookups here, so come prepared. Access to the park is easy, even for bigger rigs. The first loop seems a little newer and more suitable for larger rigs. The bathrooms and showers are clean and private. You are far from a major highway, so it's pretty quiet at night. Our only complaint was that the winds blew so hard the entire time we were there that we couldn't sit outside for long. The winds died down the day we left. I guess the area is known for their wind, so just be aware.
We had a very strong AT&T LTE signal, I didn't try Verizon.
We really enjoyed this park and hope to return when we can enjoy being outside.
