Disappointed that when I booked, I clearly outlined I was 55’ long (35’ plus ½ ton pickup in tow). When I checked-in at the hotel (they closed their RV Park check-in area), they said their longest sites are 40’. Yes, I get to unhook and park my ½ ton pickup somewhere else, as I would block the fire lane. Not optimum when all you wanted to do was park, grab a shower, and hit the Casino for a decent meal. Also, the sites are tight; slide on one side was against a tree, and I could not deploy my awning as I’d hit the neighbor’s coach. After setting-up, and grabbing that much-needed shower, I hit the Casino for a bit of fun and a steak dinner. Bummer, the upscale restaurant (Ole’ Ole’) has been closed for a year, so went to The Grille (simple menu/table service of Casino-fare you all know). My server was Beverly; she was very sweet and efficient; even went to the bar (outside The Grille) to get my drink. Honestly, she’s the best thing about this place. Also, please know the Casino allows smoking if that bothers you. It doesn’t bother me (I’m a cigar guy), but I know it does bother a lot of folks.

Back-in sites are on the small side. We had to park sidewise in front of the rig to fit the space. View over the back of the park was nice. Some highway noise, but not bothersome. Casino restaurant was cheap and very good. Try the brisket breakfast tacos!

The park is decent. Nice laundry. You get the use of the hotel’s amenities. Not a bad choice, that being said not great either. Sites are narrow. Only the back-ins have grass. Pet area was not great. Site was not long enough for both my 40’ and full size dually, so had to park in the casino parking lot. Park is lacking lighting and very dark at night, although they do have security stroll through occasionally. If your here for the casino, the park more than serves the purpose. Highway noise didn’t bother us. $50 deposit is normal for most hotels, and casino’s rv parks. $15 prime rib dinner with salad, drink and desert at the casino was impressive for the cost. Nightly rate posted included weekly rate with Good Sam discount.

They took a $50 deposit for damages I might do to the site or sewer (for one night? Sheesh!) This won’t be credited back for 5-7 days. The time to return the deposit was an annoying issue. Appears to be a lot of long term residents here. Site was asphalt and not level, all were extremely close together with a small tree taking up a lot of the grassy area. No privacy at all. However the bathrooms and showers were spotless.

The park does have full hook ups & there is some patches of grass here in there, some have dead grass some have living grass. I would only stay at this park again in an emergency for a nightly stop over after driving 1000 miles!
The check in is very inconvenient as you have to walk clear across the parking lot to the hotel lobby and wait in a line there in back of people checking into the hotel, as they have no one in the RV office. The dog park is a total joke, it’s a postage stamp and it’s dirty with trash and dog poop everywhere. On the positive side the bathrooms are clean and it is close to Lake Tahoe, Virginia city and Carson City as well as Reno. If you are a gambler, gambling is just across the parking lot, there is a bowling alley there as well.

The other reviews are correct and this place is fine if you want to gamble or be in the city. However, the highway is just outside and it’s very loud and made it hard for us to sleep. Just a heads up!

Easy 45 min ride to Tahoe, 30 min to Virginia City and shopping, gas, pharmacy right down street. Nice pool and casino was fun to go for a drink and little evening entertainment. Ate lunch in restaurant too and it was good! Was very comfortable here and would def stay again.

I've stayed at Gold Dust West RV park many, many times over the last four+ years of owning a travel trailer. It definitely falls into the category of RV park that was built before today's super-sized rigs but it's workable. We can unhook and park the truck perpendicular in front of the trailer without encroaching upon anyone else's space -- as you'll see others do as well. It is tight for our 52' of equipment, though. Plus, there's plenty of nearby overflow parking if you need it.
The desk staff is friendly and helpful. They often have to be apologetic for the facility's maintenance issues -- rightfully so. Incredibly simple things like damaged electrical towers and missing spigot t-handles are not addressed in between our frequent visits. So you have to know which sites have issues in advance or stop by and inspect them before committing to a site if you don't want to have to move multiple times to find one with everything in working order.
You will deal with noise from the freeway and access ramp. That's just the breaks you have to put up with for the location. That's a little more aggravating if you like to enjoy outside time like we do. Inside our trailer, the noise is largely a non-issue.
I give them good marks for amenities. If you need a fitness center, they offer it to the RV park dwellers. And being someone who has to do physical therapy constantly, having that space is a major bonus. I don't need their weight machines, but I do use the treadmill in bad weather and having access to a decent amount of floor space to do my other exercises and yoga is really nice. The wifi signal has been pretty darn good as RV parks go but we've also never been there when it was more than half-full.
The bath-house is *always* immaculate so high marks there. The laundry facility is clean and tidy, but prices are a bit on the smart side for the small, old-school, clunky, agitator washing machine offerings. But they do work and it's convenient. Not having to schlep to a laundromat is a big deal.
The location is good, especially if you know Carson. It's very easy to get to everything Carson City has to offer. The taqueria across the street is brilliant and walking distance to groceries and good food. But if you venture over to Centro Market just east the freeway, I'll vouch their tacos are better. Tractor Supply next door to GDW has a great supply of dog food and propane so you don't have to go far for those supplies. The Grille in the casino is a nice respite from RV meal prep. And the pie is damn good.
Overall the park is really good but not great when considering the slightly-high price given their maintenance issues and limitations. Bang for the buck is the bottom line, right? Given the limited options in the Carson City area, I still feel GDW has the best value and set up. Solid but not perfect. But far better than the other nearby parks and without being as far out as Reno or Minden. So in spite of a few challenges, it's still my go-to as a full-timer/former-local who has our house-load of crap stored in the area that we need to visit and manage on occasion.
