Half of the sites are reservable, bal FCFS. We were here on July 9 and 10 th and the park is pretty full. Great hiking nearby with fantastic views. Water is available but must first be boiled. Sites are private and well spaced. Very nice park
Arlo would stay here again

Traveling north on the gravel Dempster Highway gives way to some amazing scenery.
We arrived by noon so had a good choice of sites but by 4 PM most of the sites were taken.
Tent pads and level sites made set up easy.
Enough distance between most sites for good privacy.
Fire ban was lifted and we enjoyed a lovely fire with wood provided by the campground for free. Bring an ax and good upper body strength for spitting wood.
The park offers programs most nights as well as an artist in residence.
Great trails for hiking (sturdy boots recommended)
No bears in the campground but evidence along the trails so be prepared
Quiet and no cell service.

This park is simply stunning! You drive 30 min from the campground and you are in the arctic tundra (no more trees, only beautiful moss). It is a very popular destination, especially in August. It is a good idea to get there during the week to secure a camping spot, because you cannot make reservations. If you are planning to do a multiday hike, you need to make reservations quite a bit in advance (especially for Grizzly Lake). I highly recommend you do the Surf Bird hike, a mere 12 miles north of the campground in the artic tundra (from there, you are 200 miles from the Arctic Circle). There is not really a trail, just wide open beautiful mountains covered in alpide moss and dwarf birches and alders. There is no signal here, the closest place to have signal is in Dawson City, a good hour and a half South. The road from Dawson is pretty rough and we wouldn't do it with the bus (we left the bus in Dawson and came up here in the Westy).
Road it up would stay here again
