Booked the only Conchas Dam site Reserve America said was open in the entire campground, dry camping N4. An oddly positioned site next to the road, the folks in the equally odd N5 helped us figure out how our 24 ft trailer would fit. (Meanwhile, several better sites sat unused yet reserved) Several hours later, two rangers said we were set up in the road. But their suggested position on the site was too short, and one ranger opined the site actually looked like a pull through. Our situation was amicably solved when we promised to depart a day early. That was due to there being little to do at Conchas Lake if you are not boating. We were checking out NM lakes and dutifully hit Conchas: clean bathrooms, showers seemed okay, the sites with adobe shelters were much better than the open picnic tables. No hiking trails but good skies for star watching. Avoid N4 and N5

There were only two other people in the whole campground (on a Wednesday the week before school starts) and I couldn’t figure out why until I got settled and saw the water boil notice. Still a great stay and I’m thankful for AC at the cost of $18 a night.

We were grateful when NM State Parks opened on Oct. 1 but only to residents of NM. We purchased an annual camping pass which allows us to use a campsite without electricity for free. However the Reserve America fees still apply. Campers must have made a reservation with Reserve American in advance, no drop-ins. Only a very small number of campsites are available right now, but we were very happy with our campsite. It was a non-electric site, but did have a water hook-up, along with a covered picnic table/patio. There is also a septic dump on site. The bathrooms were open and extremely clean, however no showers are available. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The lake is nice, but was quite windy during our visit. The night skies are exceptional! We camped at Conchas Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park. Restrooms very clean. AT&T great service but no Verizon service. All the water/electric RV sites have a covered casita picnic area. Felt safe because the rangers patrol frequently.

Electric and water with an easy to use dump station. VERY clean bathrooms and showers. Plenty of dumpsters for trash. Mule deer throughout the campground in the evening. Wonderful place to stay.

Really nice views of the lake from many of the sites. We assume that this place would get really busy in the summer months for swimming and water sports.
Nice place to stay but is quite far out. Top your vehicle with gas before leaving the highway as there aren't many places thereafter.

Whenever we’re in this part of New Mexico, we always stop in Tucumcari. It is one of the best towns to get a real taste of Route 66 iconic sights: 50’s style hotels, restaurants, gas stations and neon signs! Although Lake Conchas is 35 miles out from the town, the drive takes you through some rugged landscape with mesas, red rocks, distant mountains and a sense of being out in the wilderness.
The park is adjacent to a COE dam site, which lists it’s own camp, but it was closed, perhaps due to the highest lake levels in most peoples memories. Our site in the state park was more than 70 feet above the lake. We came for four days of quiet and to finish some remote work deadlines. Some reviews claimed no cell service, and we had none for the ride out, but I raised our 15 foot high pole with a Boatant antenna and ran it through our Wilson cell boaster, and pulled in a strong AT&T signal. The Verizon signal here showed up as 2 bars 3G, but we couldn’t connect through it.
We had the usual NM state park ammenities: electric, water, a very level site, rest rooms and hot showers, along with beautiful scenery, a lake view and good neighbors. The park is surrounded by private property, so no trail hiking other than within the park and COE property and dam.
