The views are gorgeous. People aren’t exaggerating when they say this, but we’ve been here two days so far and have moved multiple rattlesnakes from around our motorhome. We have a dog, so we are understandably nervous about this and keep to the road to walk him.
This area is crowded. We arrived early in the day and secured a beautiful spot along the edge of the wall, but there are people arriving every hour. By evening, the place is packed and people are arriving all through the night. If you want a good spot, arrive early, but be prepared to have close neighbors by the time evening rolls around. We’ve also had wind every day at some point, and sometimes it gets quite severe. The “sites” aren’t really level, and it will take some work to get there, but if you can put up with the crowds, the snakes, and the wind, it is worth it. You gotta do it at least once when you are in The Badlands.

People do need to pay attention to the rules before we lose this place. No parking on the grass past the signs/poles. No feeding the wildlife and take your garbage with you. Somebody said it was BLM but it’s actually a part of the Buffalo Grasslands which is under the national Forest service I believe. We have seen a Ranger drive-by several times. There’s no more gate to open and close.
It can get very windy, so make sure that you secure everything outside otherwise you may lose it. We would definitely camp here again!

Stayed here 4 nights and snagged a spot right on the edge when you turn left.
Definitely plan on rolling in by 11AM as many people stayed 1 to 2 nights and left leaving spots open but they filled in quick!
No trees so satellite worked great!
Very windy for a few hours a day - we have a 39ft 5th wheel and parked our nose in to the wind and had no issues but I would advise smaller rigs to park a little further off the edge or tents to really bunker down.
WORTH ALL THE WIND!!! Views are like nothing you’ll ever see, it’s practically at the entrance of the national park and it’s FREE!
We will definitely come back again - one of the most relaxing and enjoyable stays we’ve had and we travel full time!

free ? 8 miles from the town of Wall and only a few miles to the entrance of Badlands National park. 1/2 mile from blacktop road leading into park. Lots of places to park and camp but most not level but not really any problem that a few boards can’t fix. Windy most of the time and lots of sun. Absolutely no shade anywhere so it’s good for solar panels. No mud when we were there but we did see lots of ruts in road from a few days ago. Lots of big trailers and motor home camp here along with small trailers. Highly recommend you spend a few days here. I’m sure it gets crowded on weekends.

This is right outside Badlands National Park, and it’s an incredible spot along the edges of cliffs and valleys. There are two cell towers right by the parkings so there is great signal at least for Verizon and T-Mobile. Gets really windy sometimes, but that just means we don’t need to run the AC.
All in all, great spot, and stunning views. Definitely drive down farther for a great spot with less people around.
Oh, also, really bumpy going in, so go slow, but can make it no problem, if careful.

We had big horned sheep pass right in front of our camper on the ledge! Can’t get cooler than that! We kept kids and dogs out of the grass just to be cautious for snakes…Kiddo did have a near run in with what we believe was a prairie rattlesnake on the ROAD though 😂 thankfully it slithered off and just had some minor screaming
We used the second entrance coming from Wall (Nomad) not Badlands Boondocking if you are using Google maps. The road is in bumpy but slow and you are fine! We got a great flat spot and our 39 ft fifth wheel fit fine and leveled no problem. There was much hillier spots we saw. After we unhooked we drove the whole length of the rim and out the Badlands Boondocking entrance (1st entrance). There was definitely some rougher sections and I’m glad we used the second entrance!
Wind did kick up at times, but it wasn’t horrible and we even parked broadside to the rim for the views. No trash or toilets, pack in and out.
Minutes to the “north entrance” of Badlands Np!
Great Verizon coverage.

We found this place via YouTube videos. Everyone said “get here early”. We didn’t but I guess it’s May so not as crowded. Bring a lot of leveling blocks, no sites are flat. Views were spectacular and temps were warm in the day and windy and cool at night. I’m so glad we found this and we will be back.

The location was super easy to get to. From Wall, SD I drove south on 240, drive about 6 miles and turned left onto dirt road (43.8931,-102.2386) You can see the tall towers. There is plenty of parking options with spectacular views. The morning sunrise is an event in itself, so have coffee ready and go sit outside and enjoy it. The sunsets are just amazing. The entry to this location is only about 1 mile from the entrance into Bad Lands National Park. Other areas of interest are of course Wall Drugs, the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site and the Prairie Homestead in Philip, SD.
After enjoying the sunset be sure to be amazed at nature's next show, The Night Sky, which is absolutely stunning. Be sure to arrive before late afternoon/early evening
