As you are coming from Wall, the turn in is just before the Badlands National Park Entrance. The road is gravel and dirt which is in fairly good condition when dry. When wet, the road turns into a sloppy mess. If you have a smaller rig with 4 wheel drive, you will be fine. I do not recommend driving in with a large rig when it's wet. There is a T in the road about a quarter mile down. To the right, there are several campsites on the cliff with a small cul-de-sac that allows for easy turning around of large rigs. If you go to the left, there are many more sites along the cliff, but there are only a few spots to turn around a big rig. If you can't turn around, you will come to the main highway and can make the loop again.
There was quite a bit of traffic with people staying one or two days at a time. This is an excellent location since you can get into the park in a few minutes. There were always bison at the park entrance cattle guard. There were plenty of prairie dogs, big horn sheep, antelope and other animals just inside the gates of the park. There is a lot of wind in this location which proved tougher for tent camping.

Awesome! Great views, you can set up anywhere in the grassland! So much space. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for an awesome place to camp.🤠
Looking west you can see the grassland go on for miles and looking west you look over the badlands. The road is a little bumpy but other than that it’s no problem getting to.

Awesome free camping near the Badlands National Park. The back country of the Badlands is awesome to explore. Just remember to pack what water you need as the water in the wilderness is undrinkable and to be careful ascending and descending these crumbly peaks, they'll tear you up.

At the time I went (9/27 - 9/29), access was easy with a normal car. The sites are amazing with direct views into the Badlands and very easy access to the National Park. I was one of the only tent campers at the area and enjoyed it very much! The views were incredible. A word of warning though, especially with a tent - the weather is very changeable and the winds can be very strong. Two of the three nights I had to move my car to block strong winds. I fared well, but a family on one of the other sites had their tent poles snap and tent collapse in on them one of the nights when the winds were really bad.
I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone who can handle regular strong winds without a problem and has the correct tent camping equipment to handle the weather.

Wow! What a difference 4 years makes. The last time we were here, I think there was one other camper in the area. Most of the time we were alone. We pulled in on a Saturday evening and the rim was completely lined! That being said, we still found a great spot! If passing through again, I would have ventured further down for better spot and view. This is probably one of the coolest places to camp. The views are out of this world. As with other reviews, you need to be mindful if it's wet. The winds can really be insane, even though they weren't as crazy as the last time we were here. It's so close to 90 and such a cool camping experience, I'll always make this a stop on my way through South Dakota!

Coming in was a little muddy due to rain earlier in the day but road was pack down real well. It is just over 5 miles of dirt road.
There were 6 other campers who were there to bird hunt but they were quiet and kept to themselves. The stars were amazing at night took some amazing pictures.
