We arrived around 5 PM on Sunday evening. Please note that this is not a good time to arrive in this area. The OHV traffic is incredibly busy and when the parking lots are full of OHV trailers, they use the camping sites to park their vehicles and trailers preventing access. The only site we were able to find was site number three.
I find it hard to give this area a one star review because it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places we have come to chat. The site backed up to beaver ponds and we were lucky enough to see both beaver and also be visited by multiple hummingbirds. It also sits in a most glorious valley, which gave us incredible starlet skies And abundant access to firewood for the evening campfire.
Unfortunately, the biggest issue in this area is the insect infestation. We knew camping next to the beaver ponds and therefore stagnant water was potentially going to be a problem, but the volume of mosquitoes and biting flies was too much. We just were not adequately prepared.
Also, the relentless noise and dust of the OHV traffic up to about 8 PM at night was annoying. The noise culminated from not only the engines, but also incredibly loud music blaring from the vehicles. It was too much and we abandoned after one day to go camp at nearby Buno Gulch.
All that said, we are going to return in the fall when hopefully a combination of colder days reduces or even illuminates the volume of insects we have to deal with, and hopefully by going in the middle of the week we will avoid a lot of the OHV traffic.

Access to the area via 60 is a well maintained one lane gravel road. Upon reaching the National Forest signs one must still travel about 3 miles through private property to reach the camping sites.
The area is now designated dispersed and all sites are denoted with a sign.
Sites are large enough for a mid sized RV but there is limited turnaround other than the sites. The road remains in decent shape as it climbs. We did not need 4x4 but the going was slow.
The Whale Peak trail begins off this road.
We had no Verizon coverage.
