Hall Valley was highly recommended by friends. Got our first chance to stay here for two nights: 2 adults plus 2 dogs. warning zero cell service but that is fine with us. Hall Valley was highly recommended by friends. Got our first chance to stay here for two nights: 2 adults plus 2 dogs. warning zero cell service but that is fine with us.
Pros: very nice wooded sites along the river. Plenty of shade. Picnic table. Water source. Clean pit toilet. Camp host was nice. We got one of the last 2 sites at 1:30pm on a Friday. We hiked up to Gibson Lake it is about 8 miles roundtrip from the campground and 2000ft elevation gain but the trail and lake were gorgeous. Fires were allowed and it is quiet at night with lots of stars.
Neutral: site limit says 6-8 people, 2 vehicles; however, there was a large family reunion with far more people/cars than that per site with loud music. Capacity not enforced, although we really could not hear them with the river noise so going neutral on this.
Cons: although the campground itself says no ATVs, people don't care. A huge group of ATVers came in for the day and overcrowded one of the sites. Ranger had to come remind them no ATV riding in the campground. One crushed all the wildflowers on purpose for fun. Another parked in our campsite next to our vehicle while we were hiking. Loud noise from around 8-9am until dusk from ATVs up on the main road. Zero wildlife on account of all the noise/crowds I am assuming.
Sum: Noise plus crowds overrules the nice later evenings; rangers don't or cannot enforce the limits. Bad apple ATV users ruining the wilderness for all other users. Really a shame and we won't go back while this is still allowed.

Took a chance and drove up there, found a great spot next to the river. Mostly shaded sites, big and spaces. Camp host was a very friendly. Road leading into the site was rough, not needed for 4x4, but it was rocky and washboard. The bad: ATV's

Stayed here one night to try to escape the heat in Denver. It was a week day and there was only one other couple in the campground, so finding a spot was easy. Stayed here one night to try to escape the heat in Denver. It was a week day and there was only one other couple in the campground, so finding a spot was easy. When you pull in, the sites on the right all back up to the river which is amazing, and they all have tons of shade. The sites on the left are more out in the open but have great views. There is also an outhouse on site.
We stayed at site 7 which could easily hold a larger group. It was huge!
The cons: the road is rough getting here. Took about 25 minutes to drive 5ish miles. There were also tons of mosquitoes since we were near the water and in the trees.
