Recreation.gov has many photos of the sites, and maps always help determine the location of hot summer sun. A hurricane came through last fall, and the park’s beautiful live oaks are recovering well. The opportunity to visit shouldn’t be passed up. Food and supplies purchases ahead will keep from leaving.

We camped here from April 15th to the 19th. We arrived to showers and left in glorious sunshine. We had one day where it rained all day and the other days the storms would periodically roll through. Why is this important to know? The road in floods and they will close the road if it gets too deep, which means it is not open to campers coming in or other visitors. We heard some folks spent the night (s) in a parking lot in Pensacola Beach. They prefer you not come and go if you are already there. They will not stop you from leaving, but in places there was18 inches of water on the road. So if bad weather is in the forecast I would call ahead. Most of the email alerts were not timely.
We were in Loop A and everyone one was high and dry. This was not true for Loops B C D and E, which is just one large area divided into sections. Most trailers or tenters in the middle had lake front property or were surrounded by water. The sites on the perimeter tended to be fine, because they were slightly higher.
When picking your site read all the notes at the bottom of the page for the site. Especially in loop A there are low branches to be aware of in some sites.
Note at this time the Pensacola Bay Bridge is still closed. The roads from Navarre Beach is only open to cars / no trailer, RVs or commercial trucks. You are not told until you get to the national seashore line. It is posted on their website under “alerts”.
Lovely time biking on the quiet roads , walking through the dunes, and watching the Osprey. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a slower pace.

We truly loved this campground. The beaches here are absolutely beautiful and the beach by the campground was not crowded at all. It is a 10-15 walk to the beach. We had a lot of fun biking to and around the fort too! We were at site C016 and felt very fortunate. Not all sites are created equal. I think we had one of the largest sites in the campground, although the electric box was a ways behind the pad (it was not an issue for us).
We did not use the bath houses, but we did use the laundry. It is $1.75/load, quarters only. Only 2 washers/dryers per laundry room (there is one in each loop). No change machines in the laundry rooms themselves, but there was a change machine at the building where we checked in.
Would have given 5 stars, but Verizon service was rough. We had 1-2 bars, but it was pretty slow at times, sometimes to the point it was unworkable (even with our booster). Thankfully we didn't have any video calls that week; I'm not sure they would have been possible.

I’m from California and we have beaches. Quite frankly we have so many of the best looking beaches in the country - but I will vouch for this one as being the most luxurious white fluffy powdery sand beaches in the USA. The view of the ocean is scenic - and in Cali we have so many with tall huge rocks as a backdrop to the powerful Pacific Ocean waves crashing on them. Fort Pickens is a soft quiet comfortable day at the beach. Perfect for chilling out reading a book or listening to music staring out over the smaller consistent waves splashing onto shore. It’s the sand and the incredible Long Beach walks in either direction that makes this beach campground location a 5 star for me. The camp ground is spacious - plenty of room in between sites - trees for shade - numerous bathrooms and showers that are spacious and clean. There is pride in this campground - and those that go here are blessed to be immersed in a beach environment coexisting with beach oriented nature ( the nearest services are 9 Miles away ) - and Pensacola is a very nice city. I look forward to visiting here again.

Still the surroundings make up for the dated campground. It’s important to remember you are camping:)

The beach is amazing. The most vibrant greens and blues under the right sun conditions. And the road in is beautiful with bay and gulf on either side and dunes all around. We also enjoyed the fort. Biking trails are good but short at about 4.5 miles end to end but a nice ride into pensacola beach on bike trail on the road.

There weren’t a lot of amenities. Restrooms were okay... The campground was very crowded and the sites are not private or very spaced out. This campground doesn’t enforce quiet hours very well they let campers check in at all hours of the night which became a nuisance. No host on campground. The Fort itself was very neat and they allow you to go inside and check them out. No dogs allowed on most of the areas besides the campground.

Camped in a 35” motorhome. We are self-contained so cannot comment on restrooms/shower facilities. This campground is located within Gulf Shores National Seashore – remote, very quiet and beautiful.
Pros –
- Lots of beautiful trees
- Good Verizon cell
- Water and electric sites – dump station is at a convenient location
- A few trails for biking and walking
- Exploring the Fort is quite interesting.
- Many people fishing from the pier
- Beautiful white sand beach – for miles but few access points
- Laundry in each campground – reasonably priced and they worked.
Cons –
- Sites are very inconsistent on amount of space between sites, amount of leveling needed and trees with low branches - read the notes in the reservation system carefully. Some are unsuitable for big rigs.
- Sporadic Verizon internet service; T-mobile cell and i/n intermittent
- Narrow roads can make it tough for bigger roads.
