6/21/24 We arrived late at night and had a very hard time finding this location, the official website did give directions but was difficult to find in the dark. I would recommend checking it out in the daytime if possible. You have to drive about 16-17miles down 114 before you find the official camping area. We did not stay there due to other camper there we wanted to be able to run our generator and not disrupt anyone. We stayed right before the camping area between mile marker 16 and 17 on this nice pull off with the amazing sounds of the creek. There is a provided picnic table and fire pit with grill top. Easy access to the creek if you want to splash around. And in the evening you can see animals on the mountain range! We stayed here with a 24 foot trailer, however, you can easily fit a big rig if needed also room for a tent next to the creek if needed. Overall peaceful oasis and LOVED my stay!!!
NOTE- NO power, or water hook ups. There is dump station located in town of Gunnison (about 30min drive from this exact camp spot) that does charge money, but is worth it if you need it. Also NO phone service! We used our Starl link and it worked out perfectly as there is a Clearview of the sky here!
Please leave no trace and appreciate this beautiful land!!

We love to boondock and were hopeful about these spots. But most are just wide places on the road that are poorly marked. It would be okay for some but not us. We drove 20miles in the late afternoon to another site so we didn't have to stay there.

There seemed to be lots of options between mile 14 and 15. There weren’t any other campers in the section we chose with the pit toilet. Very little traffic so the road was not an issue at night. There was a stream and picnic table.

There was a fire pit and picnic table as well. The site was a dirt pad that was fairly level. We stayed one night, enjoying a lovely fire, the sounds of the babbling river, and a herd of mountain goats on the cliff! The only downside is a little bit of road noise, not too bad but present.

I found this location (site 1 according to sign) by accident last night. Three things...
1) this morning 3 dogs, a pyrenees and 2 border collies, came up to my van (should have taken photo). The bigger border collie and the pyrenees
were wearing collars. They looked very thin and were obviously looking for food. I was concerned about rabies so I left them alone, but called BLM District (Eric) Office, then Gunnison BLM (Pam) to report. Both replied said "mmmm" when I told them. Then we had to have the splaining about ranchers dogs. I stated that I am just passing along info. I also inquired about other sites farther from road. Pam couldn't tell me... more in 3.
2) 10 minutes later, a nonprofit sports outfit van pulls in to use nearby "campground" bathroom. I spoke with driver who could not provide me more info except the other sites are strung along 114.
3) 10 minutes later, car pulls off again just to go to bathroom. These folks knew the bathroom was here because son in law fishes here.
All this to say, this "campground" or recreation area as it is labeled on map is odd. I can only speak for site one and considering how to explore for others. Site one has everything but privacy.
I am contacting Campendium regarding roads in my photos that are not on the maps... are these the other sites?
