My $0 nightly fee was due to my Nevada Senior Citizen Permit ($30 per year). Camping fees are normally $15 per vehicle ($20 for non-nevada vehicle). Both campgrounds (Westside and River) are dry camping. But both have 4 flush toilets and 2 showers, which was very nice. Water spigots throughout the campgrounds. A dump station is between the dam and Westside CG. The River campground (22 sites) is along the river below the dam and has large trees, so there is plenty of shade. The Westside campground (25 sites) looks to be newly built, so the trees are smaller and provide minimal shade. We stayed at the Westside campground, which is above the reservoir and has the boat ramp. The River CG has some shorter sites and the Westside CG has plenty of room for larger RVs. Each site at the Westside CG had a metal ramada, picnic table, grill and fire pit. The sites were in a horse shoe pattern, with all sites facing the restroom/shower building. The sites are located close together. If the CG is full, you will be close to another trailer. We were fortunate, in that there was only 3 others in the 26 site CG. The restrooms and showers were very clean (except for the dead moths attracted by the lights). It was that time of the year, where moths are mating before dying off.
Verizon cell service was non-existent (except for occasional text messages). We were in a Verizon extended service area (non-verizon cell towers). When we used our Jetpack, we were able to get intermittent data service at slow speeds. It was not reliable at all.

I didn't look at the lower camp. Cell service works but not great at upper camp.
It's very pretty there!!
My trailer is 30'
I was there on 6/24/22

Only a few campers here this time of year…lots of choices.
Potable water available at various locations.
Dump station available.
Sites clean and mostly level.
Restrooms clean.
Showers not open. I think May 1st is the date they are available.
Lake level very low.
Lots of hiking opportunities.
Well worth a visit.

Less than a hour southwest of Winnemucca, located on a large reservoir, it's a nice CG. It's been refurbished, it has nice amenities (bathrooms, firepits, shade) and it has some views. It's made up of two CG's. The lower CG is among trees, near the weakly flowing river with pit toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. All the sites can handle trailers of varying lengths. Ok privacy.
The upper CG has no privacy between sites, but is brand new and has nice bathrooms and a good view of the mountains past the reservoir. Except for a couple of exceptions, any trailers at this CG need to be small. (See photos) I can't imagine being up there during the middle of summer. It's probably cooler on the sun -- and less crowded. But the reservoir is a good place to escape because it's large and the water is cold.
There is a gas station at the freeway exit and some private campgrounds on the short drive to the CG. In sum, it's not a place for me to hang out, but it was a great stopover on my way to SE Oregon.

A nice ranger came through to check on us as we got some unexpected snow. He mentioned the site is very busy during the seasonal months and can be difficult to get a spot as they are first come first serve. Really glad we got to experience this site during the peaceful time of year and look forward to going back!

First campground below the dam crowded but had bathrooms and showers. Also free dump site. I stayed in the west cg with only two other RVs. Beautiful site on the lake with trails and gorgeous views. Water available but toilets and shower closed till May. One porta potty but it was almost overflowing. Why they charge without providing at least a funtioning toilet is beyond me. Otherwise I loved this place. Gravel, level sites. Covered picnic tables and fire pits. Paved road in. Go to the last campground.
