This campground has a very long bumpy road leading to it (about 5 miles). Once we arrived we were shocked to find out that over half of their sites on their site map are unusable (the whole section around the bath house). It appears that due to storms and flooding most of their power pedestals in that area are long dead and were never repaired. The only 50 amp sites are in the full hookup section and 362-366. The downside is that most of those 50 amp sites were occupied by seasonal campers. We have a 46' fifth wheel and fit no problem into our site, but the ground was very soft (grass surface) and it pooled water on the one day it rained very hard. The campground is very close to sea level and can flood very easily. The first site we tried had issues with the power (one leg had low voltage) so we moved one site over and was fine. We notified the camp host and they did have someone come and fix the power on the original site we tried. The campground's pool is closed and in disrepair and looks like it hasn't been open in YEARS. The mini-golf is also in disrepair and is not really useable.

After about a 15-minute ride to Hwy 13, one can find all the supplies one would need.
We received a handwritten note with our reservation and met some very nice people. LOTS of space for walking/bike riding. I don't know exactly what happened to the park, but supposedly the owner sold off a big part of the land. The swimming pool, mini-golf course, and a big lodge sit unused for years. Many, many sites marked as unusable. However, the maintenance crew does an amazing job of mowing all the grass and keeping the laundry room/shower rooms going. I don't think I've seen such a huge park so well maintained.

Like most Thousand Trails this park is overpriced for the park itself. Where once was a very nice park in a beautiful location is now a struggling campground still in a beautiful location. There are now four FHU 50 amp sites for overnighters. The entire center field of sites have non-working electric pedestals, apparently since at least 2021 per previous review. Abandoned swimming pool and mini-golf, but the small fishing pier is still open.
Plenty of space "between" sites although they're just sort of plunked in a big grass field. Our 50 amp and water hookups worked well and our water views out the front windshield were amazing. No park WiFi but our MiFi 2 bars worked just fine. Open sky for satellite in most sites. Some shaded sites in the tall trees, I think those are 30 amp. Wonderfully dark and quiet. You pick your site when you arrive with assist from the wonderful park staff person. Jaime is delightful! The entrance building is permanently closed but you've gotten an email the morning of your arrival so you know who to call with your ETA. That email is one of about six you'll get before your arrival.
The entrance road is 5.5 miles of very narrow asphalt through a beautiful forest. Locals pull to the side to let you pass if necessary, and the road dead ends at the park so just keep going. We saw turtles, deer, fox and ravens crossing the road so be cautious. A couple decent eateries in nearby small towns with full size grocery stores and other services.
A perfect spot to slow down and relax between the ocean and the bay.

Most of the campsites have a water view, which is beautiful. Downfall is that there is only water and electric. Septic system needs to be replaced. There is a dumping station though and half the campsites have a big red X on them for not in service. The campground is really quiet and not much of anything to do. They could really use some upgrades. The pool is closed. The fishing dock was torn down. The club house is closed. They do have mini golf which is outdated but still useable. The playground is currently torn down but the lady said they are working on putting a new one up. So if you have children, make sure you bring things to entertain them with. But overall campground is very laid back. We enjoy coming down and taking the boat out fishing and just riding around on the golf cart(there is plenty of park to ride around on) and the views of the water are just gorgeous.

I've gone back and forth on this one. The property is lovely. Huge property with water views throughout, and choice of sites in wooded area or open field area. Sites are all quite spacious with more than enough room for any size rig. Location is extremely remote, so very quiet and beautiful night sky. Plenty of room for walking or biking around the property, or along the 5+ mile entrance road leading to the park.
But it seems like this campground is going through an identity crisis! Most sites are permanently closed, marked with a big red X. Only one staff member on the whole property. There are remnants of a pool, a fishing dock, a lodge, mini golf - all abandoned and overgrown. Maybe this was a large thriving camp at one time...? One section of the property behind the RV sites has been converted to a neighborhood, with many full sized homes/cottages - it's weird - the whole place just has a weird vibe to it.
No real complaints - bathrooms fine, laundry fine, property clean. We enjoyed relaxing, riding our bikes, a trip to walmart to re-stock - thats about all there was to do, it's such a remote location. I don't think I will be back, just too remote for me, but fine place to stay if you're looking for some peace and quiet.

First year RV we got the TT basic pass for free. This was our first time at one. We had electric and water only site with a nice water view. Power went out at 10:30 though and we only had 1 night. The staff was very friendly but seem underfunded. Close to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel so we may stay again.

Stayed here just 1 night as part of our Thousand Trails membership. Full hookups (50amp, water, sewer) but possibly one of the strangest hookups we've yet encountered in our year of full-time RV living. The power was right next to the site as usual, the sewer was a bit of a stretch but nothing crazy. But then the water took nearly all 50 feet of our hose to stretch over to a shared Y-valve connected to multiple Y-valves that provide water for multiple sites out of the same water spigot. Nobody else was hooked up around us so we didn't have to share water, but that would surely decrease your water flow if all the valves are in use.
We chose a nice site near the water. The site was gravel with a cement pad on the side with a picnic bench. On either side of the gravel site the grass was soggy and we dug in a bit when backing up.
The internet was nearly non-existent. Not a surprise given the remote location, but without much else to do unless you drive 30+ minutes to Cape Charles or other nearby towns, we weren't left with a lot to see or do at the campground.
We were planning on staying a few nights, but because of the lack of internet and the remote location, we opted to move along to another stop.

They should be reprimanded for keeping this on their website.
Again, if you just want to relax and enjoy the cool breeze it’s great. Just don’t expect anything else.

The setting of this Thousand Trails park is very pretty. Green, tall pines, wildlife, view of ocean(bay), but sadly the sites are just not well maintained. 106 of the roughly 170 sites are not operable. The picnic tables at the sites are soft from rot and unless you use not only table clothes, but seat cloths, you may walk away with splinters.
The sites are pretty flat, but right between trees. Grassy/dirt pads (which are fine and what we are used to but if your looking for slab, it is not here.
The view of the water is pretty but so far it appears inaccessible. It would also appear that some people may live here which junks the place up. The facilities appear old which is sadly what we have experienced at another Thousand Trails property. We received a free year with our TC purchase but would not renew. We have camped and RVd for years so we are not new to camping, just to these sites.
We do have water and electric, but just a handful of sites have sewer. There is a dump station smack dab in the middle of the park.
So if you don’t mind old facilities this place could be fine for you. We are typically dry campers so the luxury of electricity and water was great and the coolness is welcoming in summer heat, but I think we would probably explore other options in the future.
One final note....the address says Quinby, maps calls it Painter or Exeter. Regardless, follow your GPS and when it ends and says you have arrived, just keep driving. Go passed the golf course on the right and keep driving until you dead end into the property. (Probably another 2-3 miles).

Very nice campground with level sites. As Thousand Trails members this campground isn't in our zone, nor is it part of the upcharge "Trails Program". As a result, we decided to add the southern zone to our plan and are glad we did. Being there in late April we were part of a small group of RV's in the full hook up area. The sites are level but grassy, there's some gravel on the drive up area but it's barely noticeable. As campers are aware, grassy sites are incredibly messy and unpleasant during the wet season, and it's been raining A LOT in the area as well as during our stay. That said, there is a solid concrete pad with a clean picnic table. The staff indicated they're working on adding gravel to more sites. Time will tell on that.
Be forewarned, This campground is 10 miles from RT.13 and another 5+ miles to services so if you need things, or if you're arriving late, catch the Super Walmart on 13 before heading to the campground. To their credit, the campground called the morning of our arrival to ask for approximate arrival time. At that time, they told us about the distance to stores/services. Also, it was suggested to keep speeds down and eyes open on the road leading to the campground (Upshur) as there's a lot of wildlife in the area. This is good advice as we saw many deer and turkey running around.
The staff is very pleasant to deal with and very helpful when needed. There was a tornado watch in effect during our stay, they called to inform us and to take the proper precautions in the event the watch becomes a warning.
No issues with the water/electric/sewer systems. The TT website indicates they have WiFi, I didn't see anything listed in the available WiFi networks and I didn't inquire. Verizon Cell and Data services worked well with 2-3 bars at all times.
In the end, we're glad we stayed here and will definitely go back, this is a nice campground and is worth the trip.
