We just got home today from a 4 nite stay in a rustic cabin. The amenities have the potential to make this campground great, but with staff that have little ambition or oversight it isn't going to happen anytime soon. Rustic cabin. Great alternative to a tent. Bathouses- filthy. Shut down during busy hours. More frequent cleaning needed during covid. Snack Shack- staff are young and could careless about customer service. Pool- closes if there's a storm 100 miles away and the sky is clear and blue in cape Charles. Whatever trash visitors leave is still there the next day, overflowing trash cans, empty bottles, food wrappers everywhere. A few people are asked about covid symptoms and you are told to wipe your own chairs down when you enter , and I'm good with this. WOULDNT you emptyvall trash, clean up around pool and spray down chairs and pool deck at night? So when campers arrived in the morning it presented clean? Kids on bicycles after dark, loud fast golf carts at all hours of the night. I would only camp here if I brought my. Camper next time related to the filthy restrooms.

Nice long weekend getaway that was somewhat last minute, Cherrystone was one of the few places with some availability. Tons to do and lots of scheduled activities. We stayed just before the state went to phase 3 so the pool was still closed but most other things were available. Nice, clean gravel sites but somewhat tight. We’ve got a bigger rig (~43’) and filled the site end to end...if you’re in a similar size rig expect to park in the overflow areas. The premium spots are well worth the added $$, they’re right on the water and have great views. One oddity was that they sell firewood but the sites don’t have fire rings, several neighbors were having fires right on the gravel.

This campsite is very beautiful and is a great place to bring kids and pets for a Glamping experience. There’s lots of activities, pools, and places to run a dog around. Our site had a great view and was right on the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot to camp... though we paid handsomely for it. Our complaints were mostly related to our late check-in. The website crashed every time we attempted to pay the remainder of our bill and we left 3 voicemails that went unanswered. After rolling in at 4am, an employee knocked on our trailer at 8am telling us to go to the Welcome Center to pay. This seemed inappropriate as we’d made many attempts to settle our bill and they had our credit card on file and could have just charged that. Additionally, our site did not have a sewer hookup, which was demarcated on the map but not reflected in the price of the site. In summary, this is a great campsite but not if you’re a late check-in or if you need to call ahead for any information.

The section for tents (and where we stay in our small van as we don't need hookups) is relatively quite small and off in a corner of this large resort. That's fine. Not really a great camping experience but fine for a night. This would be a great place to stay with a bunch of kids or for a family reunion - especially during the summer when the pools are open - and even off-season there were kids riding bikes everywhere. That's a somewhat different experience than what we are looking for, but this was fine for a one-night stop on our way through the area. The bathhouses were a little far from the tent section (which seems odd as they are more likely used by tent campers) but were otherwise great. Large, clean, great showers.

Camp was muddy, as it had recently rained, but in good shape other than that. Water had been shut off for the season, but one bathhouse remained open. It was heated and had great hot water, very clean. There were piers one could walk out on and fish from, multiple dog walk areas, outstanding wifi, and beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay and shore birds flying around the camp. $17 per night in the offseason. Can't beat that.

We stayed 2 days in May 2022. It was a get away for my brother in law before his wedding day. There were 9 of us total. We rented 2 sites. We spent almost $1000 counting the 2 golf carts we rented. During check in, the staff seemed flustered but weren’t rude. They were disorganized and it took almost 30 minutes just to check in. We had a great time the first day. That evening we rode the golf carts around checking out the campground since it was our first time there. That’s when it went down hill. They have a curfew for bikes and golf carts, which I understand for safety reasons and noise issues for sleeping campers. The issue is the approach of the night staff telling people about the curfew. Instead of being polite, they snap at you and belittle you! Example almost word for word: “ Hey where are you going! Why are you driving the golf cart. Didn’t you read the rules??” How about some customer service and kindness for a first offense? The staff drives around golf carts after curfew policing the campground. I overheard our neighbors complain to other campers about the same issue we were having. The next day we decided to play horseshoes. We put a $20 deposit down on horseshoes which will be refunded to you after the return the the 4 horseshoes back to the camping store. You have 2 hours to play. During the first 30 minutes of playing horseshoes one of the horseshoes hit the metal picket/rod and breaks. I have never seen a horseshoe break. Keep in mind we were not playing the game incorrectly or rough housing. We were simply playing horse shoes. We immediately went back to the store to swap the horseshoe for another one. We were told by the staff that it was their only set and they had no more. They then said that the set was brand new and we were the first to use it. They also said they would be keeping the $20 because we broke the horseshoe. We politely asked to speak with the manager, Danielle, who was not in at that moment. We came back to speak with her 20 minutes later. When we walked into the store, her immediate response to us was “ We are keeping the 20 dollars.” Is that how you greet people?! No hello, welcome, or any other greeting?? She then got into an argument with one of the guys in our camping group who was not too happy about the situation and the way we were treated. In the end, we forfeit the $20. BY FAR, THE MOST RUDE CAMPGROUND STAFF I’VE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH IN THE 36 YEARS IVE BEEN CAMPING ( I usually camp at least 20 times a season, 26 times last year). WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE, WE WILL NEVER RECOMMEND IT, WHEN ASKED ABOUT IT, WE WILL TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR AWFUL EXPERIENCE. YOU ARE JUST A DOLLAR FIGURE TO THIS PLACE. NOTHING MORE.. Such a shame.

“Forcing campers into a hurricane”
noted 9/29/2022
We were unable to cancel our reservation at Sun Outdoors Cape Charles without losing our deposit despite our reasoning being Hurricane Ian.
They have a two-week policy, which is unreasonable due to the circumstances. We would have to reschedule within a month - which we can't. It is immoral to force campers to lose their deposits or risk life and limb to cross the bay bridge tunnel during a hurricane or tropical storm.
At the least - do the right thing and let us reschedule within a longer period of time. This is shameful. Corporate greed at its finest. Book at the Cape Charles KOA instead.
