We had a water situation where they had to dig up a significant portion of ground but if you’re camping, don’t carry water unfortunately that’s on you.
Overall, it was a nice place, the people were accommodating in the camp store was huge

Overall, we really love this campground. It is only an hour away, which is convenient for us. There was a lot to do over Easter weekend and the weather cooperated nicely. (Egg hunts for kids and adults, live band, and games.) The roads are paved and easy to navigate. The pool is great (opened past Labor Day). And you can't beat the private beach. (Unless you camping at Kiptopeke down the street.) Jackspot is a nice place to go if you don't feel like cooking. (As expensive as any restaurant on the beach...). The store has a lot of necessities and the staff is very friendly. Finally, a large dog park that gives the pups a large area to spread their legs.
So why not 5 stars?
Two things that kept it from getting 5 starts. $185 a night during the summer is crazy! No way! We go in mid September and April/May so we didn't pay that. They really need to come down on the price during the summer... But if people keep paying, then why not keep charging?

Camped here Easter Weekend and had a great time. The road around site 422 was plenty wide for larger RVs to back in. The pool and private beach are nice. (Perfect after the the summer peak season.) Plenty of activities for the kids during the weekend. They even had a pretty good band play as well. Only two criticisms. First, they don't give you a flyer for the weekend's activities, and they are not posted on a website anywhere that I could find, so I had to take a picture of it with my phone. Second, what they are charging for peak season ($160+ per night & a 4 night minimum) seems a bit much for me. That's why we normally go right after or right before peak season starts.

(Glad I wasn't tent camping). Seemed like the only flooded part were the sites in our immediate area. Campground wasn't very crowded this late in the season. (11/11-11/15). Beach was nice with great views and nice sunset. Pool looked nice(closed) and bathhouse was large clean and modern. The were glamping tents, cabins and rental travel trailers. Bar/restaurant is on the beach. Only had a couple of expensive drinks there. Camp store seemed adequately stocked and sold beer too. Adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. 30 minutes from Virginia Beach. 10 minutes from the quaint town of Cape Charles and across the street from Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge. Kiptopeake State Park is right up the street where you can see concrete Liberty ships now used as a breakwater.

So... it was packed during the weekend. None of the sites are paved.... basically grass strips. This place is behind a hotel. They do have a restaraunt onsite on the beach (Jackspot) but only opened Thursday - Sun
We left a day early due to number of units packed in.... reminds us why we like state parks better

This year there was a surprise resort fee of $22 ($3 a night). I don’t know exactly what for, and I actually don’t mind silly fees like that if I know about it in advance, but nowhere in the confirmation email or the KOA site did it mention it for this location. So, that was annoying.
Also new this year they reserved cabanas for hotel guests only. Most people ignored those signs though bc they would be empty otherwise. When I called ahead of time, they told me the reserved cabanas were only a promotion only back in July, and they weren’t doing that anymore ... but it’s the last week of August and they were still doing that.
The landscapers were a disaster, mowing and weed whacking wet grass made a mess of our campsite and all of our stuff. Also watch out for the kids on golf carts. They have the best camp store I’ve seen in a while. Pretty much anything you might need is there. The cheaper sites are small ... we paid for the bigger ones this year and it was much better. They do offer a large military discount which is nice. But unexpected resort fees are super annoying.
We did take a ride over to Cherrystone Campground and we might stay there next year. It looked pretty nice.

There is also a hotel on the property with it’s own pool. Campground is on the Chesapeake Bay, nice Sandy beach area, great pool, picnic tables, fire rings and garbage pick-up at curb side. Restaurant/bar on site Jackspot is okay could be better. During the season weekend band by the beach. Super cute camping cabins. Close drive to the quaint Cape Charles.
