Beautiful area, roads are pretty well maintained. The viewer below threw us off by announcing they were charged. We were quite relived to find out this area is still free. The campground nearby has 2 loops and is indeed $10 a night. The dispersed camping (continue straight on the road without turning into the paid area) is still free of charge. One of our all time favorite areas to take off and relax at.

The first loop only had a couple of sites big enough for bigger rigs. I walked it after just parking in the very first site that used to be for the camp host. I had cell service in my spot but others in the first loop did not.
It is a really pretty spot at almost 8000'!

We came here on a Tuesday evening unsure of what to expect and found the site I had looked at on satellite maps to be available. I wanted a group site since we were going to have friends visiting off and on all week. Turns out, it seems like any site can be a group site! LOL this is a sweet little spot secluded behind some rocks and with an amazing view. Because we were hidden, we seemed to get more drive-bys than I liked because there couldn't see us until they were right here. The week was mostly empty but by Friday evening everyone that owns an ATV must be required to be here! Everyone was gone again by midday Sunday. I didn't mind too much, but don't be here on a weekend if you are bothered by them. Went in lots of great hikes and Kurt Gowdy state Park is 10 min away. Why would anyone stay there when they can stay here for free. This is close enough to home that I am sure we will be back many times

Site 14 is within walking distance to the trailhead for Reynolds Hill Loop trail. It is a large, open flat site that would fit a larger rig but does have a pretty steep embankment off the main road. We bent 2 of the stabilizer jacks on our trailer leaving the site. Plenty of privacy and solitude out here. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Awesome place for boondocking! Spent 10 days split between two sites. Hiked to campground and around the turtle rock trail! Only changed sites because rodents were getting to comfortable with us and started getting into engine compartment. Weekends were a little busy but weekdays not so much. Will be back for sure!

Able to snag a pull through for a 26ft travel trailer. Secluded trees and huge boulders the kids could climb on. Super quiet at night with only a little interstate noise in the am. Discovered a river down the hill in the morning. Was very clean. Would definitely stay again if the opportunity arises.

We stayed here in late May as a stop over on our way out west. What a great place to rest! If you can stay a day or two I would recommend that as the scenery and hiking look amazing. Right off the highway, but we couldn’t here it at all.

Very new to arrive in Wyoming, we did not know what to expect. It was so green and beautiful! There are many dispersed sites to choose from, however, some are small trailer or tent friendly, while others could accommodate a larger setup, like ours (72 feet in total length). We were in site #1, with trees, wooden fence, and a campfire already for our pleasure. Once you are set up it is time to check out the place! Lots of hiking (especially if you drive further into the camping area), rock climbing and OHV driving. Beautiful 360 degrees all around. We saw a moose and deer.
The only drawbacks were you could hear I80 at night, and if the wind dies down, the flies and mosquitoes come and bother you.
According to a volunteer at the local ranger station, you can stay up to 16 days, not the usual 14. Sweet!
Laramie is closer for shopping (Walmart) and laundry. Both Cheyenne and Laramie have historical downtown areas and is worth taking a stroll in both places.
We got free water, dump, and garbage at the Cheyenne s.e. visitor center. Plenty of room for big rigs. Laramie has a historical prison (worth seeing) with free dump and water. Only at night we had problems with WIFI, other than that it worked great!
Highly recommend visiting this place!

Pretty much whatever the forecast is, subtract 10 degrees and add 20mph wind speed. I thought I’d be fine the last week of May here, but between 40-60 mph wind gusts all day all night and temps just above 30 without wind at night is pretty hardcore camping in a tent. Still you can’t beat these sites even with traffic and OHV noise. And how they have NO trash cans at this place is why litter is so so so bad. Seriously, I’ll buy a trash can. How can you let these sites get trashed Wyoming??? Good thing there’s no such thing as climate change as the locals will tell you……..

There were a few other cars parked outside the closed road, so you can pull in there and stay overnight. I don’t think that it’s technically allowed, but there wasn’t anyone regulating it. It’s very quiet and serene! Where I was parked, you couldn’t head I-80 at all like some others have. There are out houses further into the park that are open and trails that lead to the $10 and free sites. The area is incredibly beautiful! I definitely recommend staying here! Even being in the middle of nowhere and being by myself, I never felt uneasy or anxious being here!
