The guy changed it from free to $20 a night after i set up. So i tore down and left. No hookups. Vaulted toilets. Which is fine for dispensed but I’m not about to pay $20 to stay next to a creek yellow and foaming from cow urine. And the traffic was scary fast and buddy for a dirt road. Over 40 cows at times are in the campsites and poop everywhere- which means flys everywhere.
We spoke to BLM, but little could be done done due to the contract with the ranchers.
They said they were working with the ranchers, but the cows run the roost- so much manure.
It’s a shame as it’s such a great BLM campground and so close to Carbondale and amazing mountain biking.
David would stay here again

Our spot was next to the creek with plenty of shade and had a mountain biking trail run through, which we enjoyed. There was a surprising amount of traffic on the dirt road, even at night.

While I haven't stayed here before, I have stayed at Lower Prince Creek which is only a couple minutes away and I've driven by and through this campsite a few times. Similar to Lower Prince Creek (check out that review), the price is currently up in the air. According to the paperwork posted at Lower, they were supposed to have started charging in 2019, but that hasn't happened yet. They have a pay station, but have not posted a price and don't have any envelopes. Lower Prince Creek was free when I stayed there last week, as was Upper, but no guarantee it will be later.
Both campgrounds are similar in their layout and amenities with each site having a tent pad, fire ring, and table and the campground has a single pit toilet with no running water. Both have a group site, although the group site here is larger and across the road from the main campground, the gate for that was closed when I was there. Upper is a bit more exposed to the road than lower, but is closer to the stream which has an access right next to site 1 (think "getting your feet wet" stream, not "dropping in a kayak" stream.)

“Dusty traffic and contaminated creek”
noted 4/23/2024
I didn’t actually stay the night. I set up but then they changed it from free for 14 days to $20/night limit 7 nights. So i left.
It was not a good spot. It was a cow pasture. With a campground. The creek was yellow and foaming. Please be careful of letting your kids play in that contaminated creek.
It was off a dirt road that has a ton of traffic. Every 5 mins a local would blow by going 49 and kicking up a dust cloud that I’m still trying to get out of my lungs and nose.
Nope. Not for me
