Make reservations early or they’ve booked. The town of Paonia @45 minutes away has a great downtown area, cherry, strawberry and blackberries picking along with wine tasting. Several wineries in the town for wine tasting. The Inn At Redstone and the small museum offer free WiFi. Take advantage since no cell coverage exist in the entire valley. If you’re using a tv satellite locator, sites 11,12 have a clear shot of the southern sky.

The town of Marble is 12 miles up the rode. You also have access to Carbondale, Aspen and Glenwood Springs. Walk down to fish the Crystal River.
Two loops have electric hook-ups. The 3rd loop does not, but that is our favorite loop. Many of the sites are fairly secluded. They have compost toilets with showers at no additional cost.

We walked the other loops and there barely was any shade on those loops. Make a note though- the flush toilets are on the other loops, not the Mechan (sp?) loop. Also the playground is literally just a sandbox about three feet across.
If you’re camping May-Oct definitely hit up Slow Groovin BBQ in Marble for one of your meals!

Redstone is amazingly beautiful. We arrived on a Wednesday and there was only one spot available for two nights for our rig (40' fifth wheel). They take reservations and it is a busy campground. It is a quiet campground. We enjoyed eating the service berries off of the bushes at our campsite. The camp host was very helpful. We enjoyed visiting with him. It is a little expensive for a forest service campground for us since we are self contained. However, I think they had flush toilets and showers which are normally not available at forest service campgrounds. The Crystal River and the village of Redstone are right there and well worth the visit. Absolutely no cell phone service in the Crystal River Valley!

The town of Redstone also has a dog friendly restaurant with a great menu. The town of marble is a short drive south. Marble has a really cool popular barbecue restaurant. The town of marble looks run down in some areas but it is really unusual and interesting because marble is laying everywhere; in the river, in yards, along the road, etc. Starting at about 5 miles north there is an awesome bike path that goes through Carbondale and all the way to Aspen. No cell.

Quiet and beautiful with the Crystal River just a short walk. The little town of Redstone is less than two miles and so fun to see. The camp hosts were very nice and helpful. Slow Groovin BBQ down the road in Marble is great and the drive in amazing.
