We spent one night but were disappointed with Tillis Hills campground because of the barking dogs. According to information we were given during the reservation process and several posted signs at the camp site dogs were not permitted but the campsite next to us had two dogs. We were treated to three hours of barking. Apparently the rules don’t apply to everyone. Otherwise it was quiet.
Other than barking dogs it was a nice campground. Our site was level and the area was well kept. The restrooms were clean but could use a little sprucing up. The gravel road to the campground was OK but the pot holes could use some filling. Our T-Mobile cell service worked.
We would stay there again….minus the dogs.

Nice small quiet campground. Water and electric. We enjoyed our stay. Some places was a litle tight for us, especially at the dump station. If the campground is full 36 feet might be a problem, definately anything longer would be.

If you’re looking for a campground with tons of stuff to do…this isn’t it. Peace and quiet describes this clean, well-maintained campground. Electric and water hookups, dump station. Two bathhouses. Short drive to nearby caves off S Lecanto Highway (SR 491). Follow directions in ReserveAmerica.com , not your GPS.

Paved pads with elect and water most in the shade. No pets in campground. Dogs and horses in stable area only. Two miles down a dirt road with a few small potholes to get to the paved campground streets. Quietest camping in Florida.

Nice State Forest CG with 2 shower houses/bathrooms. Great for those camping with horses as they have stables you can rent. Ours was pretty level, but some sites require quite a bit of leveling. The road in ***AND MAKE SURE YOU APPROACH IT FROM THE SOUTH😉***is about 2 miles of limestone, fairly well maintained with a few small potholes on our visit. In the drier months, no doubt it's very dusty. During the week it was pretty quiet here, but less so on the weekend. All in all we enjoyed our stay quite a bit. There are hikes you can do directly from the campground as well as horse trails. Close for day visits to Homosassa, Crystal River area. Floral City and Inverness are a couple of neat little towns to check out as well.

We loved this campground as a base for excursions to the many nearby destinations for hiking, biking on the paved Withlacoochee State Trail, kayaking at Crystal River with the manatees and at Rainbow Springs. Also many miles of equestrian trails in the state forest. Verizon service with phones was 0-1 bar and not usable for data. Usable with a cellular router.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tillis Hill. It was clean, quiet, spacious and shady. The well for water broke on our first day, but it was quickly remedied by Mack. Our fresh water holds were filled enough for us to get by until the water was fixed the next day. We will definitely be back. Great time had by our whole group.

This is a Florida State Forest area with multiple tracts of land and multiple campgrounds. Tillis Hill Recreation Area is located in the middle of the largest tract. Entrance to the campground is off of Stagecoach Rd. Do not try any other entrances as they are dirt roads (trails) that required 4 wheel drive and may not be passable. The main road (Trail 13) is a 3 mile dirt/gravel road that is wide, flat and may have a few large potholes. Just before the campground the road is paved and signage is good. There are two paved camping loops with a narrow but adequate pavement. Each site also has a narrow paved pad. Most pads have some slope but not bad. There are about 30 campsites.
The area is well manicured, the grass was cut, limbs trimmed. Sites have 50/30/20 amp and water. There is a dump station as you leave the campground. There are horse stables available for rent for an extra fee. Also a pavilion and a group camp area.
We found the area extremely quiet, especially as we learned on Wednesday that the campground was closing on Friday due to Corona Virus precautions. We were originally scheduled to stay for 10 days. No new people were arriving and some people started departing. By Friday there were about 6 of the sites still occupied.
Water pressure was good. No wifi available. ATT cell service was spotty. At times I had two bars, other times none. I gave it one bar. I was able to use the cell service for streaming about half the time. Voice service on my cell phone was adequate most of the time, but not always.
We loved the beautiful grounds and the quiet. We needed more internet. We would come back for an overnight if needed in the area. Would probably not stay for a long time due to lack of internet streaming capability. Received a senior discount. We are supposed to receive a reimbursement for nights paid for but not stayed after cancellation.

“Nice looking Campground, But, "NO PETS, DOGS, or HORSES" in the CG”
noted 2/23/2023
A really really nice campground, but I didn't look close enough to the rules and specs; because this is a "NO PET" park. The real bummer is I didn't realize it until we drove in to the sign saying, no dogs or horses in the campground. Of course I booked online through ReserveAmerica 5 days. They kept $30 some dollars out of the $96 when I had to cancel the reservation. But on our drive out through I really liked what I saw. We've stayed in other State Forest CGs and never had this issue, I know it was my fault but now we're have to Wally-Dock at Homosassa WM. I know pretty much we won't be able to come back to Florida in the winter, everything is booked solid till April. It's getting too hard and frustrating trying to find a spot. We don't mind boondocking, in-fact we rather like it. Not even the Water Management Rec Areas and Campground have availabilities.
