“This Is Our Family And Friends Favorite Place”

We love camping with Steele creek. We have tent camped there and soon will be using our camper there . It’s a beautiful place and family friendly. They do lots of cool stuff for the kids and close to some really cool places to visit. You’re close to civilization but can feel a million miles away if you want to disconnect.

“Campground dishonest about sites and availability ”

Steel Creek campground is not honest and just wants your money is my experience of this past weekend. It short summary I tried to help them out by moving from my locked site and they lied about another site being available and left me in an undesirable site .

We are very seasoned campers ( camping multiple times every month) and this was the worst experience we’ve had.

We have an almost 10 month old so I knew we needed a site with shade, near bathrooms , playground, creek etc just to make things pleasant. I booked well in advance and called to ask which sites have shade. They told me BP5 is a very nice site by the water and shade and so I booked this site and paid the lock fee in order to have the site.

The afternoon of arrival they called and asked if the Girl Scouts could use our site. I said I needed a site with shade but would be okay moving as long as our site had shade. The told me we can stay in BP1 which has shade. I knew this was a nice site from previously staying there. I really did not want to give up my locked site but I knew BP-1 was a good alternative so thought I’d help them out.

We arrived and BP 1 was no longer available and they wanted to put us in BP 2 . They claimed it had shade from a small tree ( it did not) and they also offered a site very far away from the bathroom which was not ideal with our daughter . It’s hard to walk long distance with a small child and the sites are very close together at Steel Creel so you can’t just pee behind the tent or something.

We ended up taking the sunny spot by the bathroom because I was in the area to run a race and leaving to go home didn’t make sense. But I regret not just turning around and demanding our money back after being stuck in this site. It was a miserable weekend and we left early. I essentially paid 110 dollars to be miserable. And it is really frustrating because we booked so far in advance to have shade for our daughter.

The worst part was the attitude of the owner. When I went to complain he made every excuse under the sun and was smiling and laughing at me. Clearly all he cared about was his money. He tried to claim that the tiny tree gave “full shade in the afternoon” and that our original site did not have shade ( it did - it had multiple trees ). I did not like how they argued about something completely obvious.

I hope everyone who reads this will put their business elsewhere. If you do decide to stay here do not give up your locked site for any reason and do not believe them when they tell you they have another site available. Make sure you use the reservation system and have proof of the locked site.
