I stayed in site 23, which I highly recommend since it seems to be more secluded than most. You won't see your neighbors, although you will hear them. There are several trails right near this site which are enjoyable to explore.

Stayed in site 5 which we had no problem fitting out 32ft fifth wheel in- a little bit of a steeper approach but pretty level at the top. You could probably bring a bigger rig in, but leveling up will get harder the longer you are. Site 3 was probably a better site for mid sized trailer/rig (we would have fit no problem), it was much flatter overall.
Great hiking/biking straight from camp. Great views from campsite. Very windy, not sure if that is all the time or just our luck. No water or hookups. Would stay here again, but bring our bikes next time!

Such a great little campground with beautiful views. Close to the Royal Gorge Bridge and hiking/biking trails. We really enjoyed our stay! Be sure to check out the local Brewery and Pizza Madness 😄

For coaches our size or larger I strongly recommend site 5. There is a ramp upward but it becomes flat enough at the top to level up. We nosed in to have more wheelbase on the level section, and to really enjoy the view out the front window. Although we could also have leveled in sites 1 and 3 as well.
We had to say we had slides on one side only to reserve the site, however we saw right away that we could open all four slides and still walk around our rig.
There is good spacing between the sites with both trees and natural vegetation for privacy. We faced mostly east/west and had perfect solar to top off our battery bank every day. We put our Starlink antenna a ways in front of the coach and it shows no obstructions.
Shay, our camp host, is really terrific. She showed us that there is potable water available near the Canon City Visitor Center. We appreciate this as we can have our tank topped off before heading to our next boondocking location. We got our current water at the Poncha Springs Visitor Center and had to wait 1.5 hours for locals to fill large tanks in the back of their pickups.
If you hike or mountain bike there are several long trails that vary from moderate to difficult. I found the intermediate trails great hiking.
Locally there is the Royal Gorge suspension bridge, the Skyline drive, the Royal Gorge Route Train, museums, a large off-leash dog park, and all the standard amenities a medium sized town will have.
Highway 50 from Poncha Springs and Salida is a handful and requires your full attention (too bad because it is so ruggedly beautiful!). You should really have a dash cam to get the full experience later.
We normally don't pay for BLM, but this place is quiet and special and worth it to us. It is a real blessing to be back on a solid crushed rock base after weeks of sand and silt.
We would come back.

So we blew it. Twice. But since it’s in the off season it doesn’t seem to have been a problem. We selected our site and got set up on site 13. It was one if the larger sites and fit out 26’ MicroLite perfectly. We filled out the registration form and deposited our fee as instructed on the form. Then we discovered we had paid with a check and they want CASH ONLY and the site we selected was tent only. There was no host on premise as it’s still March. All of the RV sites were taken by tenters but, as I said before, we fit perfectly in this site. We arrived on a Saturday morning and t camp was nearly full but was nearly empty on Sunday afternoon. Alcohol is not permitted in camp however there was a very large group who were up until the wee hours partying. They had a huge trash bag of beer cans for the dumpster the next day. They were quite but they’re music was loud. I assume had their been a host on site that wouldn’t have happened. There is a 1 mile loop trail that goes to the Gorge and other biking/hiking trails here. It’s a short drive to Cañon City. We would definitely stay here again.

This little gem was not on our radar and we camp along the front range a fair bit. Site 7 might be the best in terms of separation (you have no neighbors on one side.) Seven and the adjacent sites sit on a ridge and have spectacular views, but are subject to windy conditions. It wasn't bad when we where there. The fire pits are sunken which provides privacy and a wind break. We picked this area based on the weather map. Most of the front range was pretty chilly, but we found 75 degree days and bright blue skies here. We arrived on a Saturday mid-day in October and had several choices of sites.
No water. Bring plenty, it's dry.
The vault toilet and camp sites are well kept by an attentive host.
One point off for noise. The quiet hours are 8am-10pm which is fine when you're talking about campfire parties, but I think generator hours should be more limited. Maybe 9am-Dusk. Our quiet morning coffee and campfire evenings were a little spoiled by generator noise.

I took my 3 1/2 year old here for her first camping adventure and we had a great time! It was easy to find and the dirt road is well kept. We found a great spot on a Saturday around noon and it was a perfect distance away from everything. It's about 5 minutes (1.2 mi) from the Royal Gorge bridge and about 4 mi from food, ice cream, or souvenirs. The only thing I wish was around the area is a body of water or a river. It was very hot and it would have been nice to be able to cool off a bit.
The campsite was clean and level, and my daughter was able to run around and play without me having to worry at all. There was a trail right behind the site that we were able to walk down and explore as well.
All the sites are pretty tight together and I was able to hear other campers conversations. That was one downfall.
I would recommend this spot to anyone with a smaller rig or tent set up. It would definitely be a tight squeeze for a fifth wheel or RV.
