All the camping sites are blocked with large rocks. The area is open for day use only as of 6/17/2020. We'll be back when it opens up again. Looks amazing.

We really liked this campground. It was beautiful. Use the GPS coordinates listed on Campendium and you should find it without any trouble. The views are phenomenal. There was a small public restroom onsite, but didn't use it, so I cannot comment. This area is pretty busy on the weekends and during morning hours with hikers and mountain bikers. Most sites were spaced very well. My only complaint is that a few of the spaces are a little close together, but nothing at all like an RV park. On our cross-country trip, this is by far our favorite spot.
Note - this is dry camping and no stores nearby. Get anything you need in Canon City before you head up the mountain. The center of town is about 30 minutes away and once you're here, you probably won't want to leave.

We camped 3 days in early March 2020. At this time the access road was impacted by snow melt and ice. Under these conditions there would have been no way for two oncoming rigs to pass one another and backing up would have been virtually impossible. Had such a thing occurred there would have been considerable difficulty. Fortunately, there were only a few vehicles a day using the access road. We had to use 4WD in our big diesel Ram to get our 35' fifth wheel in through the deep mud, puddles and icy spots. Once you start on this half mile access road there is nowhere to turn around until you are at the campground. It looked brush was marked for trimming and I'm sure the road will dry out and be graded for summer. Access is likely only a seasonal issue.
Sites are not very level and large rocks have been placed around the edges. We saw several folk with trouble getting their rigs into sites. It can get windy up there, you are on the top of the world.
There were few other campers, spectacular views, and no sign of any city personnel or camp hosts.
It is a dry camp. Verizon service in the Canon City area seemed poor, but up on the ridge at the campground it seemed the best in the area. We were able to browse the web ok, I wouldn't have been able to stream video. Phone worked ok as well as data, but I don't recall how many bars. 72-hour camp limit.
We got showers at the KOA down near the highway for $5 each. Clean and friendly.

We have a 34ft MH and had no issues driving on the dirt road to get here. We took site 7 which worked best for our solar and gave us a great view of Canon City and mountain views behind us. If you have a larger rig, I would scout the campground ahead of time because there are dead ends which would make it difficult to turn around. We arrived in September on a Sunday and there were many sites available. AT&T service is 27Mbps DL/18Mbps UL.

We hiked the Canyon Rim trail to Far Out trail, to Le View. Lovely hike with great views and some shade. It gets hot here, and windy too. There is no water or electric, so be prepared. Each site has a fire ring and a large picnic table. We enjoyed our stay and will come back here in cooler weather. 4 stars for noise because of one annoying group but they left early.

Views were incredible from where we were also. Trails were a nice walk along the rim of the canyon. Most spots will not accept a large trailer.

Arrived at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14th. The campground was full. A staff member told us the city is putting in eight more sites, but that this year has been the busiest he's seen.

We stayed at the beginning of May and when we arrived on Friday AM there was only one person there, but it was about 1/2 full by the end of Friday and was full on Sat. Even with everyone there it was still quite and beautiful. with my 30' class c, there was about 10" of deviation between the front right and rear left so it took a little leveling but was worth it for the view. Most of the south sites might have been a little more level but the North 1 site was worth it for the view!
I did have service on both ATT and Verizon but I dont remember how many bars. Did not have issues with speed but wasn't on the devices much.
