Red Rock Canyon Campground is a super nice Campground 19 miles west of the Las Vegas strip and about fifty miles to Lake Mead. It’s south of the Calico Basin area and across SR-159. And is on Moenkopi Rd, a mile off 159. It’s very easy to get to from route 95 and 215.
Campground: The CG is a big “U” shape with crossbar drives in between the arms. Google Earth can show you the layout. There are approximately fifty-six sites in the upper part and three or four in a large open area south of the walk-in tent area. For group camping or pavilion rentals, there are 7 very nice individual spots on the east side across Moenkopi Rd., with four double pit toilets dispersed throughout that area. There is a large dumpster at the entrance to the CG for trash disposal. Just be advised, no dump station, the entire campground is dry camping, no hookups, but….
Water: Though there is water here, filling of tanks is prohibited and I believe water is trucked in or possibly pulled from a well. But there are faucets located at the seven double-pit toilets.
Pit Toilets: LET ME SAY THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY THE CLEANEST PIT TOILETS WE’VE EVER USED. The hosts keep them very clean. They are sprayed DAILY with disinfectant, mopped out and even pressure washed when needed.
Electricity: There is no power and the electricity at the host’s section is via an array of solar panels and inverters. Pit Toilets have dusk-to-dawn exterior battery/solar lights as well as interior motion lights. There is a hand sanitizer dispenser in every bathroom. Generator hours are 6am-10pm
Sites: Our site was #30 and was relatively level with a slight two-inch pitch front to back and about an inch right to left. Sites have a fire-ring w/grate and a nice picnic table and a rice gravel pad if you pitch a tent. Though ours did not, about half of the spots had covered pavilions over the picnic table on the lower half CG.
The pads and roadways are #57 gravel and most are outlined with railroad ties; there is approximately thirty to thirty-five feet between sites, which are angled properly for easy back in and I’d guess they are a good thirty-five to forty feet to the bumper protecting the tent pad in the rear of the site.
Staff: The camp hosts are very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. They are super conscientious about keeping everything picked up and tidy.
There are miles of hiking trails leading into and out of the campground and throughout the entire canyon. The Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive is across SR-159 and a mile or so southwest.
There is an Albertsons Market, a Terrible's Mini-Mart, some fast food and various strip mall shops in a very nice plaza area. There are a few propane places to swap tanks, we had our 30lb’ers filled at the U-Haul store
We stayed a week and would come back if in the area. We stayed in a 35’ Class A

Overall, great stay. Clean, nice views.
If you have a lifetime pass, it applies to these sites so 1/2 off. Also, timed entry is needed for access to Red Rock Canyon scenic drive. If you can, I suggest making a reservation in advance. $2 for the entry reservation. You need to show your Interagency Park Pass at the entry or buy one on-site.

This is my first time to Redrock so camping a couple miles from the entrance was a huge plus! The campground is a mile off the road so there is no road noise and perfectly quiet at night. Upon arrival the hosts for the day drove over to my spot and checked me in, and had a great conversation about the campground and some tips on getting into the canyon early. The campground is beautiful, nestled down in a low lying area which positions you for great sunrise and sunset views. The spots have decent separation and are well maintained. There is water at the bathrooms and I was able to fill my water containers to transfer into my trailer. Cause of the topographical distance and low lying position, there is no direct-to-device cell reception. I was able to extend my WeBoost cell booster on a 20-ft pole attached to my trailer, and got 3 bars of T-Mobile 5G service to my stand alone hotspot then ran my devices of that. It was slow but worked. Your only other option here is Starlink.

We arrived in the afternoon to check in. Sign said to check in at the office, but it was locked up. Walked around to find campsite, conformed it was assigned to us, then drove to it. Site was big and driveway was graveled. Sand tent site (we didn’t use), and covered/shaded area with table and bbq. Trailer site was sloped, required a lot of blocks for the tongue jack, and I used all four chocks for safety. Campground really well maintained and clean. Sites are spaced well, didn’t feel crowded. Surrounding campers were quiet and respectful of their neighbors. T-mobile cell coverage fluctuated from nothing to 1 bar of 5g. Even if you got 5g, it was slow. Cell booster did get us 2 bars of 5g, but it was still very slow for 5g.

You may not camp here without reservations October to May, which means you MUST pay the $8 reservation fee. And there is no cell service here unless you hike up to the hills above the campground or drive back out to the highway.
We did have reservations, which we rarely get. It was busy here mid week and all sites were reserved except for 1 tent walk in site, which had a sign saying you had to get the site on recreation.gov. or risk a $125 fine. Many of these reserved sites went empty with no show campers.
The road in is paved but the campground is gravel. Not all sites are the same. About 1/2 had tables on cement pads with a ramada and benches around the fire pit. Others only had tables and firepits. All had tent pads. We camped here with our 40' 5th wheel in site 45, which was a long back in site, however it was not level front to back. Sites were either back in or pull out.
Numerous clean pit toilets, trash dumpster located at the entrance of the campground, water spigots near pit toilets, group campsites, camp host.
Red Rock Canyon is a few miles away. The campground is very popular with rock climbers.

Nice little site just over a ridge from Vegas. Excellent tent pad, clean facilities and a friendly host.
If you're tent camping, be wary of the winds. First day had a wind advisory of 25-35MPH winds, gusts to 50. Second day was only slightly calmer.

Easy access along road to Red Rock Canyon SP. there are no hookups, dump-station, or cell-service, so know what you’re getting into and don’t expect what this campground doesn’t have. We spent a full week and enjoyed the quiet, except for a couple nights with neighbors that didn’t quiet down until 2am. There are incredible hiking opportunities nearby and only 30 minutes to the craziness of Las Vegas. The pit-privies were kept very clean and the hosts were very nice. The biggest downside is the unknown of the campsites. Many could easily accommodate a 30-40’ rig, but the information online wasn’t completely accurate and some sites were pretty sloped/uneven. The campground was full almost every night as it is a very popular winter destination for climbers/hikers. I wouldn’t try to go without reservations, but would definitely go again.

I only did four stars since most of our issues were based on our circumstances. We stayed here overnight as a last resort, if we had come here to enjoy nature or visit the Red Rock Canyon it would have been a nice place to stay. But we had planned to stay somewhere else and trying to contact them while staying here was impossible. There is no service and even when we drove into Summerlin area of Vegas we had bars, but still had issues. We ended up just leaving Vegas for our next destination. If communication or researching you’re next spot to stay is important, then don’t stay here. Beside that the sites were clean and leveled. The toilets are basically porta-potties and their was drinking water next to the toilets? Not 100% sure it was drinking water… you can’t connect a hose to it either to try and filter it. I would stay again if I just needed a place to park and explore Vegas.
