Luckily, we were not pulling our rig, we wanted to pre-scout out this spot.
It is paved road for a mile and a half from the 550 until the housing subdivision. Then it is 7 miles of dirt Road with switchbacks. I enclosed a picture from Google maps as we drove it. We saw three spots where a van could pull off. But all you could do is sit there and have a fire as there was too much scrub to do any walking hiking or anything else.
Lots of areas that say private property. We saw one spot that could hold a smaller trailer, and three tent spots. The other person who did a review must have gone even further up to the top of the mountain.

The camp road leading in decently maintained for a couple miles, and then slightly less maintenance beyond. Some medium to heavy washboard. I drove the entire area. It was about 35 miles altogether in a sedan. I did see a couple of trails for high clearance and four-wheel-drive. This spot is pretty deep in the wilderness and is at an elevation up to 10,300 feet. The only thing I could hear from civilization was the train in the distance. The views are amazing and the color is changing right now. I saw at least 15 camping spots mixed between small tent, camping car, camping and larger rig spots. Lots of wildlife. Within 10 minutes of arriving at my camp location about 50 yards there was a moose, rubbing its antlers on a tree. After examining my camp area, I discovered quite a bit of fresh wildlife droppings and tracks. I’m really surprised nobody has reviewed this before as it’s as easy as any other place to get to.
Shawn would stay here again
