We looked at countless rv parks in the area and they were either full or so overpriced ($65+) that I just couldn’t stomach paying it. After driving by many of them I’m so glad we skipped out and stayed at this rest stop. As another reviewer suggested we parked under the train tracks along the rocks. We arrived, with two kids, just before sunset and walked along the cliff viewing area. It was clean, quiet, and the views were stunning. One train went by at 8:30pm. We tucked in for the night. We put the fan above our stove on. A second train went by at 3:00am, our kids slept right through it. We were already awake by 8:30am when another train went through. It was brief and really not bothersome. I had noticed the sheriff drive through once at night and again in the morning. Overall we felt safe. Verizon cell service was strong. All in all worth it and thankful we didn’t spend any extra unnecessarily.

Enough cell service to watch TV.

We rolled in after dark and found 21 car spaces with only 4 cars and 2 pickup campers in those spaces. There are 6 Semi Truck spaces where 5 Semis were parked and a small car taking up another. We went to end where the exit turn is very large and pulled in front of a dumpster along the rocks. Checked the signage and we were good to go. Set up camp and walked the pup.
Excellent satellite and cell reception.
2 trains rolled thru during our overnight stay and can be loud as elevated tracks are immediately adjacent to rest area. I woke for one and bride woke for both.
There is a short walk to the 300' deep canyon with the active train Bridge built in 1911, still in use and the history of the two auto bridges crossing canyon. Interesting history of the area.
Temps at night were 48 and 78 at eleven am, no rain.
Two workers keeping the restrooms very clean as well as the property, showing pride in their responsibilities.

This is a viewpoint parking lot, but also an ODOT Rest Area. There’s plenty of parking for cars, but only half a dozen or so pull throughs for larger rigs. We have a trailer with slide-out, so parked parallel to the dog walking area, which still left plenty of room for traffic to move by us. It’s a big loop parking lot, so very easy to navigate large rigs. You definitely hear the highway noise in early evening, but it mostly dies out overnight. There are train tracks right next to parking area, so be prepared for probably at least 1 overnight train. There are restrooms and rubbish bins available. This lot is ideal if you just need to pull over, stretch your legs and get some sleep. Also, the bridges at scenic viewpoint are quite spectacular and a 2 minute walk from the parking lot.

It is adjacent to the rail tracks, so between the big trucks and the trains, it was noisy.

We stayed one night here in our A frame popup camper and it was great for a night. Walk the trails because there is a cool bridge at the back of the rest area that’s cool

We stayed here in our way back into town. It’s fairly quiet for being off the highway and the bathrooms are pretty clean. Nice area with grass and pick nick tables
