The Bent Tree loop can have horses and have railed pens, which the kids loved to climb on. It was a little muddy around the site and the Bent Tree trail had a lot of mud. The Lake Shore Trail was not muddy. We went fishing at the kids pond, but no luck. Both restrooms were in trailers and the shower was very small without curtains. It was a cold, rainy Saturday, so we visited the Kooper Family Tasting Room which was a great outing.

This state park often still has availability even though it's close to Austin.

My wife and I are fairly new at camping so I don't have a lot to compare it to but this is the last place we stayed. Our space overlooked the lake and we could easily walk down to it whenever we wanted to. It was a beautiful view each morning and evening. We got there on a Wednesday and had the entire park to ourselves until Friday afternoon and that was awesome. It was hot so we didn't get out much but the times we did, it was great. We used the restrooms by the boat ramp and they were very clean and nicely kept. They had some issues with the ones closer to our site and brought in portable restrooms but we never used them. We are booked for 5 more trips with the next one being Llano River State Park and we can hardly wait. I', sure we'll meet some of you along the way and we are looking forward to it.

We went for a couple of nights to get away from Austin. Some of the site loops were blocked off but our loop was in the equestrian area. Only a few people had horses. The sites were pretty wide apart with small trees separating sites. There was a grill/fire pit on site so we built a nice campfire the second night. There are many trails with clear markings. We had a good hike to a scenic overlook. Be mindful that by the day use area, burrs are bad and we were pulling them off of our shoes and legs. We saw a doe with two fawns the first evening as we were setting up, and 200-300 pelicans flew kaleidoscopic patterns above us on the last day as were preparing to leave. Would definitely come back, especially during the week.

Just before the pandemic started closing things down, we stayed a weekend at this state park. It started raining about an hour after we got parked, and it stopped raining about an hour before we left (both of which made the hitch/unhitch process a little more pleasant, to be sure!).
We had a lovely, quiet weekend, surrounded by trees and the sounds of rain and wildlife. There was a female cardinal who kept pecking at our trailer's windows, but it was amusing, rather than irritating. The nice thing about the campsite we stayed at is that it (like other nearby sites) are *surrounded* by trees; you cannot see anything "out there" but the road in front of your site. It's like having your own little park! The spot is spacious, if you want to pitch a tent for the kids or a friend, with a ground fire-ring with grilling grate, and a picnic table and lantern hook.
We didn't get to the lake, or any of the other features of this park, because of the weather, but it was a lovely, relaxing, decompressing stay for us anyway. We definitely plan to go back!

It was quiet since it was during the week. Weekends are really busy so make a reservation. This was also at the end of November.
