So insects are a plenty, our insect zapper worked a bit, but we still got bitten nevertheless.
The park is near to the airport so you hear and see the planes above the campground. There are also a lot of golf carts buzzing around so it could get slow going in and out. This park is wider in some areas and small in others.
Yes, the beach is walkable but this July, it's full all day long. It's hard to social distance specially on the outdoor rinse area. It gets congested from people entering and leaving the beach.

I wanted to like this park so much. We stayed in June, 2020 in the week leading up to Fathers Day. We had rain everyday, which I only mention because we also had the worst mosquitoes of any park we've ever camped at. Not sure what they could do about it as its a state park and they want the natural setting, but a large part of the camping area is surrounded by swampy woods. Lots of greenery, and the walk to the beach is very nice, but a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Ultimately the way this affected us was that we spent very little time at our campsite outside.
Of course you come here for the beach. And it's definitely a convenient location for that. The dogs even got to go to the beach during certain hours. The kids loved boogie boarding, and there's a hundred shops you can buy them from in town. The fishing pier at the park is pretty cool and you can pay by the day to dish or crab till your heart's content. We saw sharks around the pier, but none on the beach. The rip currents were not bad but they had no stationary life guards while we were there. Everyday the flags were between red or yellow, with no truly calm days, but we ended up having plenty of nice times. If you're there for a week chances are you'll get at least one or two great days in, the rest you're at the mercy of mother nature. Plenty to do in Myrtle Beach, and there's a Food Lion literally across the street for groceries.
My main complaint, is that the sites are all different, with some being VERY tight. Our site (299) was almost impossible to get into with a travel trailer because of the way it laid and having neighbors parked in their sites. Luckily when we left, the site across was empty so I could take up some of their space to maneuver. We saw at least one camper scrape up against a tree and destroy an awning. You're fine in a class B or something, and some sites have plenty of space... but they are all different. I would not stay in our loop again, if we ever came back.
Cell coverage was almost non-existent on T-Mobile, and barely there on Verizon. There was wifi but it was not consistent. I work remotely and need internet for remote desktop (not really streaming) and was able to work with a unboosted verizon mifi. Calls were super sketchy though.

Myrtle Beach State Park is a unmolested strip of beachfront wild that is a welcome change from the endless strip of tee shirt shops and mini putt facilities.
The campsites are well shaded and there are a few on loop 6 that provide buffered space between the sites. The rest of the sites are fairly packed together and shallow. In June, the campground was busy with lots of golf cart and bicycle traffic. The park is fairly noisy, but gets appropriately quiet at “Quiet time”
The park staff are Southern friendly and we’re all very helpful.
Our site (147) was next to the Nature & Activity center, so we had great Wi-Fi reception. T-Mobile service was non-existent; however, AT&T & Verizon both had excellent speed test results (40/50 Mbps up and 15/18 Mbps down respectively).
We would return to the park, but not Myrtle Beach. #beentheredonethat

It is a big and busy campground but quiet and manageable compared to some others. Love the beach access and our site was awesome. Has some trees in both sides to shield some from the neighbors. I would say circle five and six are the best sites....more privacy and bigger sites. We were able to load the motorcycle into our toy hauler on the site. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Internet speed was perfect as we worked some days. Defiantly will be back.

It's much easier to pull your rig in instead of trying to turn around, the campsite are packed sand and dirt. Not bad even after a short rain it was fine, we have a 36 ft class C and we had more than enough room for our rig, tent and vehicle. Not all site are this big so ask, also there's a $20.00 difference in water, electric hook up to a FHU they do have 2 dump stations. Showers very, very clean and the laundry is $2.00 each now the good stuff. The Beach is a 5 minute walk but you are in the flight path of the airport so all in all. Great place, easy access to stores and the beach and good wifi. Safe travels.

Myrtle Beach State Park is a true hidden GEM! Our site (155) was about 1/4 mile walk to the beach. The beach was beautiful and not very congested. Our trip was in the off season but it was a nice 60 degrees on most days here in the beginning of January. I have seen some videos and especially looking at their "queue line" for check in during peak season, this place looks like it gets CRAZY BUSY. Due to it being off season the charge for us to stay was only $23/night and the clerk at the store said when we were leaving the price had dropped to $19/night. Our site had 30 amp electrical service and no sewer, but they do have sites that have 50 amp and sewer. The sewer sites are indicated on the map as being the ones that are highlighted in yellow.
Myrtle Beach State Park, SC is dog friendly, during peak season there are time limitations when you can take your dog to the beach though. It is also one of the few public beaches that I have been on that is horse friendly. Apparently, there are even companies that you can rent horses from that do guided horse walks on the beach. I thought that was pretty neat. The only downside is that there is the occasional horse droppings on the beach. I really didn't think it was that bad though.
As far as site selection it's mostly going to boil down to two things for me... #1. Being closer to the beach and #2 having some privacy. The sites here range from being within a few feet of your neighbor to being surrounded on most sides by thick vegetation.
My site recommendations are coming in 3 categories which hinge mainly on privacy. #1 Best - Pretty private sites with thick vegetation around them. #2 Better- which will usually have some light vegetation or covering between sites. Then there is #3 okay'ish - which are not very private at all but seem to be good sites.
Best sites 19, 20aa, 20B, 74,60, 142,155,175,188,189, 190,191,194,196,198,200,204,206,208,215,223,239,241,245,298,307,309,311,312,313,332
Sites (decent) small amount of space or light greenery between sites)
15, 16, 17, 72, 83, 84,87, 90, 94, 96,105,141,154,192,193,201,203,205,207,209,213,214,216,217,219,220,226,229,231,232,234,235,242,246,294,300,302,304,306,317,333,335,336
Sites okay’ish (little privacy)
9,10,11, 59,65, 75, 82, 93, 108,124,126,127,128,129,130,131,133,135,184,187,221,236,238,297,315,318,319,324,326,327,328,
Sites that I would AVOID are indicated here! I just wouldn't do it for one reason or another.
61,102,103,107,116,118,119,122,123,134,137 138,139,140,176-183, 186,195,197,233,243,244
The only other negative thing that some people point out is the close proximity of the airport. Granted... it's off season, but it really didn't bother me too badly.

We were expecting a parking lot this near to Myrtle Beach (which if you’re not from the area, it is a big spring break destination.) but we’re pleasantly surprised to find a nice wooded park.
We stayed one week in two sites, 17 & 64 both level, semi private. It’s a short walk on a paved path to get to the beach. Beach was clean. Park was not to crowed in mid September, but it was hot and the mosquitoes were still hanging around. We did notice some standing water in some of the other loops.
Pier was closed but pier store was open. (Hand dipped ice cream available there)
Good to know
* You CAN NOT see the beach from campground.
* Planes. This campground is on the local airport flight path. One day coming and next going. You can read the numbers on the planes as they come in over the beach. You just need to stop talking and wait till it passes. I will say we did get immune to them after day 3.
* pier store had pvc beach wheel chair. Call to double check if needed.
* You will be asked to sign that you were told about no alcohol policy
* Laundry rooms
* Two dump bays
* Sites 18- 20AA are in-front of said dump bays
* Two large shower houses without air conditioners. (The one near camp store needs new shower heads it’s like needles!)
* Trees block most of wind from ocean which can be good or bad depending on time of year
* 2 Walmarts and a neighbor Walmart very close. Garden city one was nice
* Grilled cheese and Crab Cake sandwich shop was great!
* Small Nature center and short trails in the park.
* Cars, including park rangers, drive through this park to fast so if you have kids watch them.
