Pirateland Family Campground

Location is great. Convenient to lots of activities. Short stay of 5 nights. Did not use any of amenities.
Stayed in Site 190 which is on the main beach front road. They had a golf cart parade each night until 11:00 pm. If noise is a problem for you, stay farther off the beach.
The parade isn’t bad enough to keep us from coming back. Multiple options of sites. Many pull throughs are concrete pads. It had rained hard for 2 days before we arrived so we had a small area of water on the sand site when we arrived. It went away quickly.
Cell service with Verizon was ok. Internet speeds during the day are minimal, too many people, not enough bandwidth.

We spent the last week of July 2022 here, last year for mustang week. As anyone should suspect, it was busy. Golf carts are everywhere, as expected, and they seemed to have a golf cart parade almost every night. Despite that, when we were at our campsite (site 788), it wasn’t so bad.

They have 3 different food trailers that come there at different times throughout the week. We ate from the BBQ one and it was pretty good, you get a good hefty portion. We really enjoyed the funnel cake trailer, though we didn’t get a funnel cake lol. I got their deep-fried Oreos, and they were great. Most I’ve had have a ton of batter on them and sometimes isn’t cooked all the way through. I got these three times during our stay and each time they were just right, just enough batter to cover them and fried to perfection in my opinion. My wife got deep fried cheesecake and loved it, said it was rich in flavor. She also got the deep-fried banana pudding and enjoyed that as well.

We used the laundry facility once during our stay. We didn’t have any problems but there were a few washers giving a customer some problems, but a maintenance guy was there quickly and fixed the problem. There isn’t any hot water washing which wasn’t a concern for us. The campground store was sufficient. We used the restrooms a couple times while we were out walking, and they were decent considering how many people are there.

The lazy river and pool are very nice, and we enjoyed those. While there are a lot of people in there during the day, it really wasn’t all that bad, still plenty of room to move around and not feel like your over capacity in an elevator. They have a kid’s sections that looks cool as well.

Our site, 788, was large and easy to get into. FHUs and all worked fine. Did need some minor leveling, it’s sand. Plenty of room for parking. There isn’t a fire pit because fires aren’t allowed. Easy access to the beach.

The staff was very friendly and professional. They have staff on patrol riding around on golf carts. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would come back.

I was excited about staying ocean-front for the first time. The rate was ok (used Good Sam's discount) and I booked 5 days expecting to be watching the ocean every day. Well to my surprise the dunes were so high that the best I could do was hear the ocean. Since it had just rained and the ocean-front spots were pools of mud I decided to move away from ocean-front and take a cement pad spot, that are of course more expensive. Go figure. The office was nice about my moving locations and set me up on the phone.

This is a large RV park, most of park is filled with permanent residents, almost all of the RV spots are in the area closest to the ocean where the spots are a decent size but totally wide open, no privacy. I was glad to have a cement pad, level ground and relatively quiet spot since it was mid-November. The laundry was the largest I'd ever seen (see photo) $2 to wash but only cold water. The campground store is sorely lacking for so many residents, not even a good back of chips. The pool was incredible looking, like a small lazy river next to the lap pool, but it was closed. This park is open year around but things were closed in the park. There is an indoor pool that is open, check the map, it's kind of hidden.

The internet was good, I have an AT&T hotspot and didn't need to use my booster, Verizon was good too. Restrooms were good depending on the age of them. Some are being renovated but the best are the highest building numbers like 6, 7, and 8. Cleaned regularly, I would use the shower there if I needed to.

I did like best is that you could hear the ocean, even 15 spots back from it, I also liked the beach. The weather wasn't the best when I stayed but it was nice to walk on the sandy beach when it wasn't raining. Also, the park is large enough to ride a bike through it all and hopefully not get lost; I enjoyed the long rides I took.

This is a fun campsite with a mix of permanent mobile homes and campers. We stayed in a premium site closest to the beach and could hear the waves at night. The campsite was moderately busy and could be quite hectic when full. The bath houses were clean and plenty of hot water. Kids loved it and we tried fishing in the ponds but didn’t even get a bite. My only complaint is that the sites close to the beach are a little tight and can be tough to get into with other campers. Off season price and military discount were great. Our entire stay was less than half of one night at a local hotel.
