It is currently $15 per person per night to camp. There isn’t really a lot of camp spots unless you go much further in. If you do not have a 4 x 4 high clearance vehicle or an oval landing trailer you will not make it.

Prices have increased. Day pass to hike is now $5 and overnight is $15. (As of 7/2022) It’s a convenient location if you are just passing through.

We arrived in the early afternoon on a Sunday and there were only a few camps set up along the 3-5 miles of road I drove. We set up camp at the trailhead w our 30' tt to ensure we had strong LTE cell signal for the week since we were working and the kids had online classes and I couldn't chance poor internet this particular week. 2 bars plus the cell booster and we were in business.
There are many great sites I would have loved to park the rig at but, again, we needed to make sure we had that signal.
The road leading down the canyon and back up was fine. I would have had no issues taking our rig up there to all the other sites.
We found ourselves playing camp host a number of times since we were at the trailhead but that was our doing.
The hiking trail to the ruins is on the left side of the road right at the valley of the canyon. Its about 1.75 miles to the first set of ruins (house on fire) which will be one your right. This is a fee site which you can pay for a day pass or for the week. Since we camped at the trailhead and hiked throughout the week we just payed the weekly rate which was $40 for our family of four.

Camped 10/9/19-10/11/19 (Wed-Fri). Paid $10 for 2 people for the week to cover our 3-night stay. We thought it'd be boondocking here, but paid since the fee station notice stated all vehicles must have a permit, and besides, we planned on hiking. Use Fees were $2/day per person, $5/per person/weekly fee. Note that rates increase 1/... more

Arriving in the evening, we put the truck in 4 wheel drive as parts of the road were covered in fine red sand. We headed back farther than the first trailhead, and set up in a large open spot by the bridge & creek. It wasn't until the next morning, we saw that there was a second trailhead across the road and we had camped in the trailhead parking lot (there were no signs, however, and there had previously been a fire ring).
Our neighbors across the creek left the next morning, so we moved to that spot, which was beautiful except for the fine dust that gets EVERYWHERE, especially when you have a dog. We backed the camper in, and there was room for the truck. We had no cell service here, but had 3-4G at the beginning by the fee station.
The site was quiet and clean, but there was occasional traffic going by. Driving further down the road to explore, camp sites were few & far between. We ended up turning around and not driving to the end. There are more site options at the beginning of the road, but some are rocky and unlevel. As in a previous review, there is an old corral area that is easy to get into and level.
We hiked both creekbeds (no water during our visit). The first trailhead along the road goes to House of Fire (about a mile hike one way). The second trailhead has some ruins up in the rocks above the creekbed. No signs pointing them out; we found them by chance by climbing the rocks in certain spots. At the fee station, there are no informative maps showing where anything is on the trails; in fact, we found nothing mentioned on the House of Fire ruins at all, nor Cave Towers. Mule Canyon Ruins are along Hwy 95, just past (west) the Mule Canyon Trailhead road. For these ruins, the road to the parking area is paved, and there are vault toilets.

But it’s nice once you find a spot. Some VeriZon signal in many places. But it’s super slow.
There is at least one more spot up the road near an old corral beyond the campendium coordinates. And then another a bit further about
https://goo.gl/maps/C45p1b16okLn4Ghk7 and probably more.
Note that the park service is now charging the hiking fee here like the rest of Cedar Mesa. Technically I guess it’s not required if you only Boondock but why would you not go take a look at the Native American ruins?

You know that one time when Jessie asked you to the prom and you were like, "Sure, what else do I have going on?" but then Kelly asked you and you were like "Dang, yes, definitely yes," but then you had to come up with a big plan to ditch Jessie and the problem is Jessie and Kelly are best friends and so you just ended up sitting around with Lisa all night instead, super bummed that you didn't wait for something better in the first place because you figured you're not that good at sports or named Zack...
Yeah, that's kind of what this area is like. We'd later discover significantly better spots down the road, but lets be honest, Jessie is a real catch and you'd be lucky to have her, just like anyone camping at Mule Canyon is lucky as well.
From other reviews I'm not sure what's going on here, but the digital photographs I've uploaded by means of Internet-connectivity and captured via my handheld portable everything machine reflect where the GPS coordinates here on Campendium took us. It was a sharp right directly onto a red dirt road and we were scratching the sides of the 4runner we were driving in, so I can't imagine anything bigger than a VW Bus or so could get in here without tearing the place up. Nothing worthy of camping in appeared "right next to the road" but again, there are all types of pull offs and places to camp near here so maybe other reviewers are referencing something else.
Besides the juniper back scratch and the occasional funny feeling you get from all of the bumpy roads, there were a few minuscule pull offs suited for a tent and then the big payoff at the end, a large open circle where we had plenty of room to set up a tent, spread out the camp kitchen and toss around the old pigskin (I toss it, my kids catch it, and then they throw it somewhere I have to go and pick it back up. I don't believe in bending over so this is not a recommended activity if you are me and your kids are mine.)
A wide open vista stretches out behind all of this and a downhill trail promises an argument with your 6 year old when you explain to him that he should have saved some of his snacks because he's way too big now to get carried all the way back up the hill by his old man dad.
PS. Natural Bridges National Monument is super swell, and this is probably the best camping where you can be alone but be close to both Natural Bridges and trips back into Blanding should you want to stock up on drive through burgers and Junior Ranger badges on a regular basis.
PSS. If you don't care about the PS above, keep going another hour to two hours, things go surreal outback super good that way.

We would stay here because of the hike. But we didn't. It was not close near the road. And because we hire our RV we don't want to take a risk. the dirt road was wit puts and holes. But it is a nice place and we did the Hike! That was great!

Stayed one night in a spacious spot right up the road from the trailhead. The road was a little bumpy, but we made it fine in our Sprinter Winnie. Walked right to the trail in the morning to see the House of Fire cliff dwellings.

We are in our campsite now. Memorial weekend and no one camped near and few cars on MIle Canyon Rd. There is a very large area when you first turn into Mule Canyon that could fit several large rigs. We went further back in and there were many options among the pines and juniper, just depending on how large your rig.

Nice site with night light views of Blanding, Utah in the distance. Had a solid 3G Sprint signal and HD television channels. ATV riding going west along Arch Canyon road is easy to moderate. Going east towards Combs Wash can get from moderate to difficult, but definitely doable.
